Race Report: Espirit de She Chicago

July 28, 2014

On Thursday night I headed down into the city for the Espirit de She 5k/10k. Minus the 2-hours spent sitting in traffic,  I loved everything about being an Ambassador for this race. I got there with enough time to snag (free!) street parking, catch my breath and take in the beauty that is the Chicago [Read More]

My First Race

July 15, 2014

I’m linking up today with Erika, Patty, and April for Tuesdays on the Run. We’re talking about our first race. Do you remember it? I remember mine, although it’s pretty vague. I ran track in middle school and a couple miles here and there on my own in high school but once I hit college, [Read More]

National Running Day Giveaway

June 3, 2014

What better way to celebrate National Running Day than with a free race? This one looks fun too. The Hit and Run 5k is an exciting obstacle race for ages 10 and up. Obstacles are challenging but not hard. You’ll splash, bounce, flip, flop and catapult yourself to a triumphant finish. Runners are welcome to [Read More]

Flying Pig 3-Way Challenge

May 5, 2014

The Skyline Chili 3-Way Challenge and Flying Pig weekend are in the history books and I lived to tell about it. Let me back up and say this was not my idea. Thing 2 is obsessed with all things pig and has begged me to do this race for years. Finally I acquiesced. When I [Read More]

Race Report: The One w/a Dogfight to the Finish

April 27, 2014

I entertained blowing this one off. It was a crazy night. A house not a half mile down the road was leveled by a gas explosion, taking 6 other homes with it. 20 houses on fire in all. The loudest, scariest sound I’ve ever heard in my life. It took me hours to settle down [Read More]

Eggshell Shuffle Race Report

April 20, 2014

On Saturday morning, we ran the Eggshell Shuffle. This year Thing 1 agreed to run and recruited a friend to join her as well. The weather was pretty much perfection minus a little wind. Like I mentioned in my last post, I took the Yoplait Greek 100 Taste-Off to the race for more taste testing. Runners [Read More]

Chevy Chase 5k Race Report

November 11, 2013

I raced the Chevy Chase 5k yesterday. It was done in a ‘chase’ format, which was completely foreign to me: We lined up based on a projected finish time submitted at registration and started ONE BY ONE, at 5 or 10 second intervals, can’t remember which and wasn’t paying attention. Weird, yes? We lined up [Read More]

When Races Turn Ugly

November 4, 2013

Thing 1 and I ran the Panting for Paws 5k this weekend. It benefitted a local animal shelter/rescue; love that. Weather was perfection: cold and clear. We were raring to go…sort of… After much hemming and hawing on Thing 1’s part, I made the executive decision to run with her, since none of her friends [Read More]

Trick or Treat Trot Race Report

October 28, 2013

This was a low-key race put on by a local rotary. Costumes were ‘strongly encouraged’. I’ve never done the costume thing before. It was time to get off my high horse and have fun. First time for everything, right? I woke to find my Garmin that was charging was now completely deadsville. Blank face. No [Read More]

marciashealthyslice I'm a working mom who, as part of a mid-life challenge, decided to run a marathon for kicks. I didn't plan on it becoming a hobby, but it did. I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
