Test Lab Thursday

October 23, 2014

One of the fun parts of blogging (besides interacting with all of you) is trying out new products. Since I’ve got bunch to share, it’s high time for a Test Lab Thursday, don’t you think? First up: Manitoba Hemp Hearts: What on earth is a hemp heart, you ask? It’s what you get when you [Read More]

5 Stages of Taper Madness

October 21, 2014

Just like grief or relationship loss, marathon taper has its own special phases and stages. You’ve done the work. The proverbial hay is in the barn. But somehow, cutting back mileage during the final weeks of marathon training plays tricks on many of us. Let’s take a little Kubler Ross-esque look at the stages of [Read More]

Pumpkin Chase Race Report

October 18, 2014

It breaks my heart to tell you this, but I was supposed to be in Denver this weekend for the RnR Denver Half. Alas I am not. It’s a long story but suffice it to say, flights to NYC for the marathon in 2 weeks were more $$$ than anticipated and the fallout was no [Read More]

5 Ways to Make Exercise a Habit

October 17, 2014

There was a time, back in college days, when a friend and I hit up the gym almost daily after class. We’d go and we’d feel great and then, somehow, I’m not sure why, we’d stop going….for like 6 months. That was my pattern when I got out of college as well. I’d hit up [Read More]

WICW and a WINner

October 15, 2014

WICW. No that’s not a typo. WICW stands for Where I Chafed Wednesday. You can tell it’s marathon season when we’re talking chafe around here. One would think that after running marathons for 7 years and counting, I’d have chafing under control. Um, apparently not so much. Behold my latest lovely: Looks like a chest [Read More]

SOS Rehydrate Review

October 14, 2014

I am a late comer to this whole electrolyte thing. For years I ran my longer runs with water and a fuel drink like Gatorade or Accelerade. But  I struggled in the heat, especially in those late miles. One particularly hot RnR Chi Half, I took a salt packet mid-race. And oh what a difference [Read More]

NYCM Training Week 13

October 12, 2014

First: Huge congrats to our weekend racers. It was SO much fun to watch my FB and IG feed. The Chicago Marathon weather could not have been more perfect and I am so very proud of all of my runners who threw down one stellar performance after another. Seriously you made this coach very proud. [Read More]

Currently

October 10, 2014

Books: None as usual. But I do have a new mag. subscription (surprise) that was too good to pass up. I hadn’t read Oxygen in eons but it’s back and better than before. Even though I have less than zero interest in ever becoming a figure competitor, there’s a ton on clean eating and great [Read More]

October 8, 2014

marciashealthyslice I'm a working mom who, as part of a mid-life challenge, decided to run a marathon for kicks. I didn't plan on it becoming a hobby, but it did. I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
