Running and Lifting and Rocking, Oh My!

December 22, 2014

I’m linking up with Katie for Marvelous in My Monday!

mimm

Is it winter break where you are? It is here and I have to say it’s pretty divine. The dogs got me up but not after sleeping a whole extra hour. I’m hoping the kids will stay down for awhile longer. Love me some morning solitude.

Somebody pinch me. So this happened:

rocknblog

I guess there was a very good reason I stocked up on GU and Nuun and all things running. My head is still spinning about being a #RocknBlogger and there are no definite plans yet, but suffice it to say I’ll be a RocknRoll roadie in 2015! Since I’ve morphed as a runner from a PR chaser to one who’s out there for the sheer joy and social aspect of it, this gig is pretty perfect. I feel like a kid in a candy store when I look over the 2015 RnR event calendar.

Strength 1214

Stronger every day. I’ve been hitting the weights hard for three weeks now and am pretty satisfied with my progress. I told you I’ve gotten stronger and much less sore, but yesterday I was MUCH stronger. I needed minimal assistance on pullups for 24 reps. I probably should’ve taken a crack at an unassisted one, because I suspect it is within my ability.

Running is still happening. I’m still getting out 3-4 times a week, but only for 3-6 miles and I’m leaving Garmin at home.

running in pink

Runners’ rule #897: The greyer and more depressing it is outside, the brighter one must dress.

Running is so ingrained in me (not to mention a total mood lifter in these super dreary days) I don’t ever want to stop entirely, but I wanted it to feel like an off-season and it does!

How was your weekend? Do you change up your workouts?

Congrats on the RnR gig! Which ones will you do?

I wish I could say I am switching things up, but I am such a run lover that all I have done this week is run, strength train/stability work, and one session on the bike trainer. I need to get better about variety!

Amanda I have no clue yet! I know the one I will not be running is RnR Chi as we are in Europe in July. Oh the irony! Wish there was a European one while I’m there alas there is not.

When it is gloomy, I wear the sunshine too! It helps. I’ve never run a RNR race, but would love to.

Congrats on the R’n’R! I have really great intentions to do strength training but I never follow through!

This weekend I went home – thus I used the gym in our house and it feels GOOD. Yes, I use the gym in LA too but the altitude makes it that much harder and I friggin’ love it! ๐Ÿ™‚

I need to get back in the weight room. A couple of years ago, I went at least 3 times per week. Now, I’ve just been running and doing a weekly yoga class. I miss the lifting, though. Thanks for the post – it just might motivate me to get back at it!

I am really excited about the gig you got! I am also excited about the weights. It seems like I will be living vicariously through you with lifting AND running!

So I take it that you get to chose a certain number or any number of RnR events? That’s really cool. Congratulations! Should be a busy and fun 2015 for you.

I am looking forward to joining you on one of your RnR road trips!!! Yay for sole sisters!

And yes, the gloomier the weather, the brighter the clothes. We need some sunshine!

It’s tough to get motivated to go out and run when it’s so dreary but I’m always glad when I do.

Nice job on the pull ups!

I bet you could do an unassisted pull-up! In the new issue of Women’s Running they have an article on how to work up to one. I have it book marked but that’s as far as I’ve gotten. ๐Ÿ™‚

Can’t wait to hear which RNRs your going to run. So much fun!

I agree, the grayer it is outside, the brighter one must dress! It’s good for safety ๐Ÿ™‚ Your 2015 running year sounds like it will be fun. I’m actually thinking about booking a 2016 Disney run after all. They are expensive, but I love Disney and I just want to run for fun ๐Ÿ™‚

How exciting about RnR! Congratulations- I will have to meet up with you in October when you run LA ( are you running that one?) Love your rule about the bright clothes on grey days…I’ve always believed that color is a mood lifter, or at least a reminder to perk up. Hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas. xo

I am all about the strength training, but somehow have STILL not cracked the pull up code. You’re looking pretty fierce, mama!
Congrats on the RnR gig, that’s very exciting!
And I totally agree with your runner’s rule about bright clothing, though I tend to be very “visible” even when it’s sunny out. ๐Ÿ™‚

No holiday/winter break for me sadly. My only day off is Christmas day this season, working both eves, and New Years day. But the kids are off, and thrilled to be home relaxing. I have allowed myself a few weeks off, but plan on getting back at it after the holidays.

I agree with Rule #897! Congrats on the RNR gig! Sounds like fun times ahead. Oh, and go for that pullup already!
