Disconnected

December 30, 2009

Breaking News: My toe will be heading into the new decade naked….a New Year’s Polar Plunge of sorts as Fugly Betty toenail decided to break free just hours after my first Boston training run. That’s right she’s gone. Done in by mile repeats.

The kids and I were in the produce aisle no less, between the celery and asparagus when I felt some stabbing going on in my sock. I was thinking one of those plastic price-tag connector things as it migrated around, but then no…too big…like a tooth. Alright sorry I’m being gross. It finally dawned on me. I wanted so badly to peel off my boot and fleece sock right there but how disgusting would that be? See I am the considerate type. I waited until we checked out, got our bonus free bananas at the door…WOOT!!…and battled our way thru slush, icy winds and obstinate parking lot traffic.

Only then, when I was safely back in the beloved Estrogen Express and despite the protest coming from the backseat, did I remove my sock to survey the scene. I’ll spare you any further details except for Modern Caveman’s comment when I told him later: “So are you going to keep her and make some sort of freako charm??” Let’s just say, it’s a good thing we aren’t doing anything fancy ie: open toed for New Year’s Eve. I’ll bet FB will be back in fine form just in time for Boston.

My A-List Roster is growing! Hello and welcome to the newcomers! At this rate the 100 follower mark may be coming soon! Sounds like a great reason to celebrate with a GIVEAWAY! Stay tuned…

Sorry about the toenail, but I cannot relate. Are you wearing the right size shoe? Are you getting a shoe that is at LEAST a 1/2 size bigger?

I agree with Katie. Since I switched to bigger shoes, I haven't lost a toenail. They occasionally get a little beat up looking, but they've all hung on.

I believe that it would be cool to make a necklace out of it. lol. Is a Congrats in order? I don't know, because I can not share the same story (yet). Still working on my base right now. Fairly new to your site. Keep up the posts. Looking forward to reading more. Take care and Happy New Years.

Ah! Thanks for not taking a picture. A necklace? Really?

Katie and Heather here's the thing: whenever I get in for a 'professional' fitting they tell me my shoes are too BIG! But when I tell them about my toenail issue they back off. I think I either have not found the ultimate shoe for me or am a mutant or both.

You sound like me and my well earned roadburn scab … I didn't save it when it fell off, but I did take a picture of it and send it to my hubby. We have a very strange relationship … haha!

I have gone through the same thing and it takes a looooong time for a toenail to grow back! Really long time! The year I ran 4 marathons and 2300 miles I gave my toes a beating. They are still trying to recover.

Yeah a giveaway! I am having one for January and February! Stop by and check it out soon!

    You crack me up!

marciashealthyslice I'm a working mom who, as part of a mid-life challenge, decided to run a marathon for kicks. I didn't plan on it becoming a hobby, but it did. I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
