It’s Probably Nothing…

January 15, 2010

Thank you all so much for the support and good wishes. I’m back from the dreaded annual physical. Thank my lucky stars the papers containing my bloodwork results were glowing so brightly I almost had to wear shades!

Cholesterol Ratio: perfecto
Triglycerides: almost non-existant
Good Cholesterol: through the roof
Fasting Glucose: mighty fine
…and so it went. I’d just finished my happy dance and was about to exhale a humoungous sigh of relief when the nurse wheeled in an EKG machine. Whoa Nellie not so fast!

After laying very still for a little while then waiting for the doc for a long while, I was shown the results: all Greek to me but apparently in two instances my heart went bump instead of thump. So my healthcare odyssey is not yet over. According to the doc, it’s ‘probably nothing.’ But given my ‘history’ a stress test is in my near future.

Not the end of the world for a runner right? Maybe I can count it as speedwork? In the meantime I’ll try to stay positive and calm and not let my imagination run wild. Alright, I’m off to make that call. Knowledge is power…knowledge is power…knowledge is power…

Glad the numbers looked good and fingers crossed that the "bump instead of thump" is nothing.

Fantastic news about the blood work! No need to The test is just precautionary, I am sure everything is fine. Don't stress over things you can't control.

As someone who has suffered through many EKG tests just let me say my heart does bumps and thumps in all kinds of rhythms but, alas, I am well. Nothing to worry about I'm sure. Oh, and congrats on the cholesterol test. I can only hope mine comes back so perfect!

Excellent numbers…congrats on that! Try not to let your mind take you down roads you may not need to travel.
I do think it's funny that they call it a stress test 🙂

You'll come through the stress test like a champ! It is definitely better to be safe and I am sure it will be nothing; with all those outstanding lab results how could it be anything?

I had to have a heart test last year after a doc said my heart wasn't beating normally and I kept running, thinking that every run was my last! I kept thinking, well, if this is how I go…at least I'm running with a smile! Everything was fine, obviously. Hope your tests are fine!

I am sure the doc is just being extra careful. You are a runner. You have a strong heart! No worries.

I'll keep my fingers crossed for more good news. I'm sure you'll be fine–probably better than fine. I have the same dire family history, so I'm right there with you. (One of my doctor's once said, "Oh my" as she looked at my chart.)

Great numbers indeed!!!! Keep taking care of yourself… my son lost his father in Sept at the young age of 34 because he pretended he had nothing in his family history, which he was fully aware of, and refused to see the doctor for anything, regular or unusual. I'm sure it's nothing too….. just keep doing what you're doing! 🙂

marciashealthyslice I'm a working mom who, as part of a mid-life challenge, decided to run a marathon for kicks. I didn't plan on it becoming a hobby, but it did. I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
