Stalling

January 28, 2010

On tap today was my FIRST + Operation Build Endurance 10 miler. But I planned for 8 because it’s a cutback week. And I’m tiiired! Too many body parts to call out one by one are complaining so I’ll just have them all stand up graduation style, recognize them en masse, and hope the aches and pains vanish.

The fact that it was 9 degrees with howling winds sent me back to the magic bottomless running gear drawer for reinforcements. But rather than hitting the roads after dropping off Thing 2 at preschool, I found myself in Walmart stalling. I needed to go there, since Thing 1 informed me she needed an empty Pringles can for something at school.

Pringles? Seriously?
After all the effort I make to feed them well, teach them about healthy eating/set a good great example, the school requests a Pringles can??

You should have seen Thing 1’s face fall when I told her I’d scare up an old tennis ball can instead.

So I found the Pringles.
Are the cans getting taller or am I getting shorter?
Holy hydrogenation. Plus an ingredient list 2 blocks long.

What do I see on the aisle end?
Chocolate Cheerios
Sans my geezer reading glasses I squint to see the nutrition info.
I manage to make out the first ingredient is corn flour with sugar hot on it’s heels so ixnay.

Then I meander through the card aisle under the guise of buying Valentines early, when inevitably I’ll fail to get them in the mail anyway.

Clad in my Cold Gear, wind pants, fleece etc. I’m pondering various gushy love verses until the sweat that’s now pooling around me on the floor is approaching ankle deep. Only then did I remove my dawdling pansy ass from the store, get out there and run dammit!

It was windy and freezing (11 degrees now wahoo!) and leaden and miserable. But I knew my self-inflicted wrath of blowing it off entirely would be far worse than anything Mother Nature could throw at me. So it’s done. Ugly but done.

Do you ever stall?

Do I stall? I live under the mantra "why do today, what you can put off until tomorrow…"

I stall, but hanging out for a few minutes in our Walmart would be enough to get me out running!

I totally know how you feel about the food! We did everything right with my son in regards to food, now since he started school he is a horrible eater! What is a mother to do!?

I'm a firm believer in feeding kids well balanced meals, at every meal. Lots of veggies and whole grains. But you've gotta let them eat crap once in awhile. Although, I draw the line a soda.

I refuse to run out side in when its below 30deg. I'll be freezing all day if I run when it's in the 40's.
But yes I stall. I hate it too. It makes me mad at myself. I hate time wasting for no apparent reason.

I definitely have been known to stall…

Stall? How about flat out avoid!!! The bf was upset about his bad day on Tuesday and I was about to go out the door for a run. I convinved myself that the 25 year old wouldn't survive without me and went over there instead… and followed up with a LOT of champagne (he didn't have champagne). I convinced myself that I was giving up my run to support somebody close to me… pshhh and getting out of a run. :\

i stall alllll the time. i actually stand by my door (i live in a dorm so i have to walk down 4 flights of stairs to get there) and then lean against the door for 5-10 minutes before i push it open haha

I also stall a ton! Mostly I'll open up Google Reader and look for "motivation" for my run, but in actuality I'm just wasting time ๐Ÿ˜‰

Your one tough cookie for going out in this weather. I feel like a real wimp hanging out on the treadmill.

If I hesitate at all about going out to run, I can easily talk myself out of it and put it off. The best thing I can do, is immediately go after work so there is no time to procrastinate. Once my ass hits the couch, I'm done. .

I spied those Chocolate Cheerios in the aisles of Wal-Mart last week and immediately ran in the opposite direction. Bad news!!!
I am also a very talented procrastinator at times. I might have even gotten dressed but still manage to skip a workout once or twice.

I am stalling right now – not with running, but I sometimes do that as well. At least it will be a touch warmer when you get out there.

It's funny, I am a big ON TIME person! I am on time for EVERYTHING! But running? Not so much…I procrastinate sometimes too long. Gotta work on that ๐Ÿ™‚
Great job on getting your run done in the tundra…I don't know how you do it!!

I am crazy anal about being early to things, but there are some days when I stall on running … and then I go into by bedroom and I see my treadmill staring at me and I usually suck it up and run!

    Seriously, a pringles can?

I'm such a staller too! Like sometimes I stretch and decide I can totally rest my eyes for a few mintues or I decide I have to pee and then sit there cuz you never know if you might need to…

    LOL! ๐Ÿ™‚

I actually bought Pringles for my boys for our road trip. *gasp* But I ended up throwing it away half full. They really are gross.

I'm actually stalling right now! Ok, better get to it…

Pringles huh? THe things that they ask for. Chocolate Cheerios? You are kidding? What in the world. Do I stall? Hmmm. Sometimes, to see if if the weather will improve, but not usually. The more I stall, the chances of actuall running diminishes. Good you got your run in.

I tried those Chocolate Cheerios the other day (my mom had them in the cupboard and I was starving) they weren't all that great either.

    What's ixnay? I'll google it.

"But I knew my self-inflicted wrath of blowing it off entirely would be far worse than anything Mother Nature could throw at me." So true! Saturday morning is the worst – so much has piled up during the work week. I'll just get a load of laundry started before I run… Or – I'll just pay some bills before I run… Or – fill in the many blanks! But the few times I've actually skipped the run I feel terrible about it. And you did gain 3 degrees in the temperature, so good for you!

Getting out there and completing your run (in brutal temps/wind, no less) is a victory whether you stalled or not.

What are they doing with the Pringles cans?

  24. Casey says

I do stall. I don't know why it happens. I've stalled myself out of runs entirely, which is unfortunate. ๐Ÿ™‚

I love that teachers assume that all kids, by default, must have an empty pringles can lying around.

I'm such a staller, but I claim it's a genetic flaw. Even my daughter is a staller (she was past due when born). So, we can't help it ๐Ÿ™‚

I don't usually stall I look at my run as part of my required day. I have to so it before I can "settle in" for the evening. BUT I sometimes just not do it.

You are a braver girl than I am. Bad morning = no run. Major wind chill = no p.m. run. FAIL. My family would have killed me for taking littlest out (there I validated my laziness) and of course the treadmill was somehow forgotten tonight. So now I will have a 5, 12 & 20 for Friday, Saturday and Sunday…I must be crazy!! Wonder if it will happen. I will think of your inspiration in getting out in the COLD and try harder!

Um, YES, yes I stall. It's 20 degrees here, but feels like 8, so I'm making all kinds of contingency running plans and deals with myself, and I've already planned to do my run when I get home from work, which is as late as I can possibly do it.

Stall? Um, totally! I think sometimes I do my best work under pressure. And chocolate Cheerios? Maybe serve them up for dessert when guests come over for dinner but geez, not for breakfast. Happy Friday!

oh i stall all the time. it's normal!

i tried the chocolate cheerios at the store once when they had a little sample station set up. but yeah, otherwise i'd avoid all those "ingredients" since i'm trying to eat better! (minus my m&m problem)
