Training Recap

February 15, 2010

Week 7 of Boston Marathon Training is complete: 30 miles

Sadly none of those miles were running ones as my achilles is still out of commission. I’m trying my best to give it a thorough rest rather than push too hard and pay the price of having it messed up even longer. The mental aspect of this is exponentially more challenging than the physical one. As you’ll notice below, the bike seat is pretty much becoming one with my behind.
Here’s how the week went:

Monday: Yoga

Tuesday: Kettleworx Core DVD and Hips, thighs, butt DVD

Wednesday: Speedwork was on the schedule but I pulled the plug as soon as I felt my achilles. Ended up walking 3 miles then cycling another 5.

Thursday: Kettleworx Cardio DVD and arms and shoulders DVD

Friday: Muscle Conditioning + 45 minutes hard cycling

Saturday: Yoga + 30 minutes cycling; skating with the kids

Sunday: This is the first long run I’ve missed since I started running. Waaa! Went to a killer group cycle class + cycled 1 hour on my own. More skating with the kids.

Great job on a week of great workouts. Sorry about your achilles, I feel your pain. Giving it rest is the best thing you can do for it.

I think it is great that you are still getting hardcore workouts in! When my shin went out, I kind of gave up on myself. It is inspiring to see you still going strong!

You are being super smart and not running and injuring yourself further. Way to keep up the workouts though, and I am sure this time off will repay you ten fold when you hit the roads again! Happy Monday!

SO, I was just telling a friend about the mental aspects of training for Boston…we really only need to have it pulled together and tight by three weeks before Boston…thinking of it that way, we still have lots of time! ๐Ÿ™‚

Woo! That's a lot of training! I understand about the mental part. Midway thru training that's the hardest part for me. Gotta do some serious kicking myself in the booty.

Great Job on that. I have been thinking about getting those kettle balls and giving them a whirl. Have you noticed any improvement since you have been on them?

Wow, great week! I hope your achilles starts behaving. And, while I wouldn't go straight to "gardener," I do love playing in the dirt, moving plants around and putting new gardens in every spring.

Way to keep up with the cross training. I really don't enjoy anything but the running so I probably would have given up already!! Way to be smart! Nine weeks to Boston-plenty of time to heal if you do it properly!! Good luck!

Get better ok? ๐Ÿ™‚ Nice work with the Kettleworx. I just bought one a month or so ago and I realized, after reading your post, that I could get a better workout with it if I watched the dvd that came with it. DUH!
