Training Recap: Taper Edition

April 4, 2010

Yes folks I finally FINALLY made it to the taper! After injury, illness, whining, more illness, shoe strife you name it I’ve suffered thru it this training cycle, I have made it to the TAPER barely in one piece!

Here’s how the second to last week before that little race that culminates in Beantown shook out: 32 miles

Monday: SRD: Traveled to Florida. Let’s hear it for spring break! 75 core moves.

Tuesday: Massage, long walks and yoga on the beach at sunset. Ahhhh! Corework 100 moves.

Wednesday: 6 mile tempo run on the sand. It was slow but the splits were negative. I’ll take what I can get at this  point. 100 core moves.

Thursday: My mind’s a blank, other than corework, probably nada unless you count giving the credit card a workout. 100 core moves.

Friday: Speedwork, and I use that term loosely. Planned on doing a ladder (haha I’m cracking myself up just typing that) 1600m, 2x800m, 4x400m. Actual: 1600m, 800m, 800m fizzling halfway thru, blew off the 400’s and plodded into the wind instead. 100 core moves.

Saturday: Yoga, KettleWorx Cardio  and Core DVDs and a marathon of laundry. That’s gotta count for something right?

Sunday: Happy Easter! 20 miles! It was windy and I was slow what else is new? I think I have my Boston outfit picked out! Yippee!

Notes: Although it was in the mid-70’s to 80’s during the day in Florida, it was cool and comfortable in the mornings when I ran–not humid at all! Very promising to this northerner who still suffers from post traumatic Chicago marathon 2007 heat disorder.
Although I got my workouts in while on vacay, eating was a different story. Don’t even wanna go near the scale for awhile yet. Ugh!

Bring on the TAPER!
HAPPY EASTER!

I can't believe it is already taper time! Ahh!!!

marciashealthyslice I'm a working mom who, as part of a mid-life challenge, decided to run a marathon for kicks. I didn't plan on it becoming a hobby, but it did. I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
