Try It Out Thursday

May 27, 2010

This week’s feature: Thorlo’s Experia Merino Wool/Silk Socks

Experia Coolmax Thin Cushion Socks have been my BFFs for some time now. I won’t lie: When Tracy at Thorlo told me she was sending a Merino Wool/Silk version I was a bit um wigged out concerned. Would the natural fibers treat my finicky feet right?

Here’s what Thorlo says about this sock:
Designed for: High performance runners, cyclists, hikers and fitness walkers who prefer a minimal amount of foot protection. NOT Designed for: Active people with any distracting foot issues or long-time wearers of Thorlos thick or moderate cushioned products.

Powered by Thorlo Pads, Experia Merino Wool/Silk has just the right amount of cushioning where it is needed; in the ball and heel. Experia Merino Wool/Silk offers both protection and sheerness for the perfect blend of comfort and performance. The combination of Merino Wool and Silk together provides wicking, softness, and durability.

I put them through their paces:

Speedwork on the treadmill: passed with flying colors.

Tempo Run. This was actually last weekend’s race. My feet were perfectly comfortable throughout the race and I’ve gotta award style points because the chestnut brown color went perfectly with my cheetah skirt!

Long Run. After 10 miles in ridiculous early-season heat and humidity on Sunday I was sure my poor feet would be soaked and in full revolt. Shockingly my socks and feet were dry. DRY!

So after 3 runs of varying lengths under various conditions, a couple of washes and a stint behind the washer (thanks to Thing 2), I am really impressed with their performance. I give them the coveted 10-toes up!

I've seen Thorlo socks but don't actually own a pair. After all the rave reviews that I've read I may just have to go out and buy some

Impressive! Wool doesn't sound like it would perform that well in the heat. I might have to check these out.

Oooh – that was what was behind the washer!

Thanks for the review – I've been using the thin cushions, so I will have to try these.

Love the festive wallpaper! I may have to try these, I love lightweight socks and if my feet stay dry, EVEN better!
