Trainerly Personal Training Review

October 10, 2013

Recently I was invited to try a Trainerly online personal training session. Personal training? Yes please! Wait, I don’t need to go anywhere? The trainer comes to the comfort of my own home virtually? I had to let this process. I can watch the trainer via my computer screen, like a workout video….but the trainer can see me too?? I was intrigued.

There’s a whole constellation of trainers to choose from: core conditioning, body building, yoga, cycling, pilates, boot camp, you name it, it’s available.

I went with a yoga session. Rotator cuff injury + road construction on the route to my gym all summer = I’ve fallen completely out of the habit of going regularly. This was the kick in the pants I needed to get back to doing yoga.

I won’t lie. I was nervous about the technical aspect of the session. Would I be able to activate the camera and microphone? Would I be able to position the computer so the instructor could see me?
No worries, though. A short video showed me everything I needed to do and even a tech-dunce like me was able to handle it and hook up by myself.
Before I knew it, at the appointed time, I had Brookelin my personal yoga instructor, smiling, ready to workout, in the comfort of my own home. Can we say convenient?

This guy was also ready for some yoga.

The session was great. Totally interactive. Brookelin’s dog made a cameo appearance and one of mine did as well. See? Soul sisters!
Brookelin took my injuries/tight areas etc. into consideration and we did something special for the hamstrings and calves. The yoga flowed and felt great and before I knew it the session was winding down. The only thing I missed was music. I didn’t think to put any on and my instructor didn’t either. But I could totally get used to a regular session like this one!

    • All trainers are experienced and certified.  Trainerly accepts only about 15% of the trainers that apply.
    • Sessions are streamed in High Definition, TV-like quality (personal 1:1 as well as group)
    • Trainerly is compatible with computer, laptop, iPad, Tablet, and even smart phone. Works on all internet browsers (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, etc.)
    • No membership fees, no subscription fees, and no long-term commitments
    • First session is free. If you don’t like your trainer during the first session, the next session with another trainer is also free.

I wish this was around when I was a new mom. I can’t help but think back to the times when I’d leave the kids in the gym child-care center only to have the attendant peeking in the yoga studio door with fussy baby in tow, before I had a chance to unroll my mat. Sigh.

This would also be the bomb for those of you who travel frequently. Your trainer is as close as your laptop!

  • Half hour, one-on-one sessions range from $20-$35. Full hour sessions are $40-$65.
  • Group sessions are $10-$25 per half hour; $30-$50 for an hour.
  • Your first training session is FREE!

Have you tried virtual personal training? It’s definitely worth checking out!

Note: My training session was free of charge and Trainerly sponsored this review. However all thoughts and opinions, as always, are my own.

It’s just amazing what can be done using technology these days. I would never have thought of this application but it sounds like it works.

This is pretty cool but I think the prices are a little high since your trainer isn’t actually there with you. However, it sounds like it was a great session and if you find a trainer you really like it doesn’t matter if they are virtual or not.

    What a fun idea!
I think that would be a fun “girl’s night out”!!! Instead of just sitting around snacking, you could workout (and then snack!!).

This is a really cool concept! And it’s great to hear from someone who has tried it that it’s the real deal. May have to check this out.

Sounds fantastic! I’m going to be traveling regularly for my new job so this would be a great way to fit in a workout, particularly when I’m feeling a little unmotivated! It would be great to have an instructor there to keep an eye on my form!

I have never heard of this- such a cool concept!

marciashealthyslice I'm a working mom who, as part of a mid-life challenge, decided to run a marathon for kicks. I didn't plan on it becoming a hobby, but it did. I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
