Weekend Rewind: Summer Edition

June 29, 2015

I made Saturday a rest day to accommodate Thing 1’s graduation/birthday party. It was a ton of work but a ton of fun too. Oh and drama. Gotta love some family drama. Not. But it is what it is. At least the weather cooperated.

summerscene1

Sunday I got out at the crack of dawn when it was a heavenly 53 degrees for 9 miles. It was a much-needed, head clearing decompresion run. I’m two weeks into training for the Twin Cities Marathon, yet haven’t fully committed to a training plan. Whoops! It’ll come together one way or another.

pool fun

Later we all hit up the pool. I snuck off to the swim lanes for a little practice. Swimming in something other than my official training suit, is just weird. Things pull. Fabric flaps around. Water streams in. Not very shark-like. Because that’s me, shark-like. Ha! I didn’t swim nearly as long as I’d have liked.

gelato

After that there was gelato and maybe a frap too. I have no shame.

hot pepper

I spent the evening getting my hoe on at our community garden. We’ve had a rainy cool spring/summer so far and I haven’t had to water but holy weeds Batman! I do have some peppers and tomatoes coming along and I’ve discovered mint in my plot that I did not plant, as well as a few nomadic squash that seem to be flourishing as well. Bonus!

suitcases

This week it’s all about packing for our epic European adventure. We’re starting off in London and will work our way to Greece, with many stops in between. I can’t wait, but in a way I think it’s almost as much fun looking forward to it. We’re packing light. Hear that kids? LIGHT!

What was fun for you this weekend? Have you been to Europe? Do you pack light?

    53 does sound heavenly πŸ™‚
I have never been to Europe, what an awesome vacation!!

That trip sounds amazing! My husband and I have said we want to do something like that for our 10th anniversary. Our 8th was last month, so we’re starting to toss ideas around now rather than just passively mentioning it every few months. haha

53 degrees yesterday? It was 68 up in Door County when I ran at 730! Crazy, right?

And boo to the family drama. Altho what would life be without it?

I have been to Europe a couple of times… but not GREECE! That is definitely on my WANT list.

I’m not fully committed to a training plan either. I wonder why that is? Probably because I don’t like anyone telling me what to do. HA. I got in 11 ugly steamy miles anyway. I’m very jealous of the 53 degrees. The vacation sounds exciting!

I thought I might get to Europe this summer but it’s not happening. Pout.

I have a couple of raised beds that are just jam packed but everything seems pretty happy. My squash is actually twining itself up Gizmo’s kennel!

Oh, my gosh, Marcia!! I’m so jealous of your trip!! Can I fit in one of your suitcases, please? I’ll pay the extra weight fee, I promise – ha! πŸ˜‰ I’m so glad you had a great weekend; that gelato looks delicious and I’m REALLY jealous of the 53 degrees. Hope your week is off to a great start and thanks so much for linking up with the blog!

I definitely struggle with packing light especially if I plan to run while Im away. I feel like I need to bring a ton of running clothes so I have options, and of course my foam roller and lots of other accessories! I really need to work on leaving that stuff at home:)

Very jelly of your trip! Haven’t been to Europe since we had kids – I’m hoping now that the boys are getting older we can plan a trip soon. Good luck with all the packing!

this sounds like an exciting trip! My hubby is in Greece as we speak and he has sent a few beautiful pics! and yes I always pack light! I need room in my bag for the things I might not want to leave behind πŸ™‚ your weather this weekend sounds kind of nice. 99% humidity Saturday morning for my 5K- ugg! Have a great week!

Oh so excited and jealous of your trip to Europe! I’ve only been to Italy but it was a blast. Went with soon to be Hubby at the time and we packed light. We packed whatever we could in our Osprey backpacks. Good luck with packing!

How fun and exciting!! I have only taken one trip there London, Paris, Rome, Florence, then back to London…considering all that in one trip YES my packing was light just don’t ask my husband πŸ™‚ We will all be awaiting your pictures along the way!! Have a great time!

Everyone is in Europe this year. I’ve had most of my friends over there and my Facebook feed is full of European vistas. One day it’ll be my turn.

Haven’t been to Europe since 2006 but we try to pack light and leave space for all of the good stuff to bring back! How long will you be gone? Hopefully Greece will get its act together!! I can’t wait to hear about it.

I feel you on the marathon training plan too. New York starts 7/17. Need to pick some as to train πŸ˜‰

LOL on that pile of suitcases! Remember, European hotel rooms are small, so you won’t have room for too much stuff anyway. πŸ˜‰ Plus, if you’re traveling from place to place, no one will know that you’re re-purposing the same outfits!

SO excited for you and your European adventure!!! I have never been but it is on my bucket list. Can’t wait to see your pictures and live vicariously through you πŸ™‚

I always try to pack light when traveling, two carry-ons if possible and no more. Europe is amazing – I haven’t been for a few years but it’s always fun to see how other people live their daily lives.

So excited for you and your trip to Europe! I am definitely NOT a light packer, one of my downfalls. It annoy’s my hubby to no end. He is a commercial pilot so he packs very efficiently and doesn’t understand why I need many clothing options πŸ™‚

    Have a fantastic trip!!

marciashealthyslice I'm a working mom who, as part of a mid-life challenge, decided to run a marathon for kicks. I didn't plan on it becoming a hobby, but it did. I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
