What’s Your “Running Uniform?”

February 29, 2016

A running “uniform”. Do you have one? Let’s say (hypothetically, of course) you can only wear one running outfit for the next few months. Tell us/show us the go-to pieces you would pick.

My go-to pieces for spring/summer are tanks and shorts or skirts with visor.

For cooler weather I usually go with a half zip and tights or capris. I won’t even get into the layering that goes on when the temps dip.

My “uniform”

If I’m going to be stuck wearing one running getup for awhile, I’ve gotta go purple. It’s my power color. And I have lots of it, not that that matters for this exercise. Since the next few months will be a mix of weather, I’ll go with capris. Maybe I “should” go with trusty black ones, but you know me, I’ve gotta be crazy. It’s Spandits Kotinos for me. Since spring is supposedly coming, I’d go with a Headsweats visor, because that’s the only brand that does not fly off in the winds around here. I’d wear sunglasses as well. Because even if it’s not sunny, chances are good it’s windy.

Since we’re in the midst of yet another winter storm, it’s hard for me to tell you I’d choose a tank. Yet if I go with long sleeves, I’d probably be melting in a few weeks. What to do? I’m torn between the Lululemon long sleeve top you see in the pic above…

prana wild thing

…or this tank from Athleta. It looks pink in this pic, but it’s purple.

I’d go with my beloved Balega Blister Resist Socks in, you guessed it, purple.

Did someone say shoes? The Mizuno Wave Sayonaras are tempting, but I think I’d go with my faves for distance: Asics Gel-Nimbus. Except my current ones aren’t purple. They’re aqua though so they sort of match my Spandits.

Last but not least, of course I’d wear my new Uber Garmin. Love that thing.

Do you have a #running “uniform”? What are the go-to pieces you wear again and again? #runchat

I have a skirt in that pattern from your pants…I train in about once a week! You’re right, why stick with basic black?

This is a tough time of year to pick something because its still cold now but will be warm before we know it! I generally prefer short and tank tops but capris and long sleeve t-shirts can be comfy too. It’s the heavy layering that I really don’t like!

Love your purple outfit! Much more fun that plain black!

I love purple, but my go to power color is probably orange. Or black! I am just loving all the fun leggings. Such a nice change from my basic black.

Spandits are adorable. I wish I liked running in just capris. Once I found skirts, I pretty much stopped wearing just capris except to the gym.

I love those Spandits! And that photo of you in the Athleta tank is just beautiful. I’m partial to purple too but I’m open to all colors 🙂

    I love purple too!

And now I have 4 new running shoes. Pink, purple, blue, and I’m trying to remember what the fourth pair is. Purple also, I think.

I love your spandits! One of these days I must try a pair.

I had a pair of MWS I just retired. The guy at the store put me in MWR, which I liked, but that’s not what I bought at the store. But I came home and bought a pair from DSW which should arrive today (because yes, I’m a premiere member, and I get free overnight shipping) — although maybe not til tomorrow, I forget when I put in the order) — because a had a bunch of DSW disconts!

And then when my husband read on one of my comments that I’d bought 4 pairs (2 were a few weeks ago, though) he almost hit the roof.

I pointed out that his guns are much more expensive, and I use my shoes much, much more.

Purple looks good on you! I don’t really have a running uniform, though I do have a few items that are identical (shorts, tops in different colors). I think I’ll be going back to Nike Pegasus because the Mizuno Wave Riders have been awful for me this year!

Shorts, and COLOR. ALLLL the color 😀

I wear layers right now because who knows what the temps will be. Even if it’s sunny, it could be windy. I wear sunglasses all the time here because of the wind, but I also need sunglasses when it’s cloudy because there’s just enough light and my eyes have gotten sensitive as I’ve gotten older.

This topic sure made me laugh today because for some reason this morning I decided I was NOT going to wear that disgusting pink long sleeve turtleneck of mine that smells and branch out into something different! The reason it smells so bad is because it IS my running uniform in the winter. Reebok tights, gross pink turtleneck, and pink fleece vest. I own one buff which I wear to cover my ears, and I double up dollar store gloves. They are seriously the BEST things to wear when it is freezing and it was only $2 for the double pair!

I love all the tops from Old Navy’s athletic section – tanks, tees, long sleeve, etc. I am still looking for the perfect bottoms and sports bra. The weather is so humid during the summer here that everything chafes. 🙁

Love purple- and LOVE those tights in the first pic! So great.

  17. Ana says

Purple is an awesome color! and those leggings are totally awesome!

My running uniform, if I could only pick one would be my adidas capri black leggings, my black adidas running top, and my Target long sleeve purple tech top. All of those are super light, but keep me warm. And of course my Garmin watch… garmin watches should come with a disclaimer… “Person might become addicted to tracking all activity from this watch” type of warning.

My hubby would say my uniform is stinky! LOL! I love my running skirts when it is warm enough but I love the way the long tights feel on my legs when it is cold. For me that means it is below 50 degrees- LOL! I swear by my Asics and they are my favorite!

  19. Char says

One? How can I choose just one?? I can hardly close my running drawer most days because clearly I don’t like having to wear the same thing over and over.

  20. lacey@fairytalesandfitness says

There is not one specific thing I wear a lot. If I had to choose. It’d be capris. I have them in all colors. But I do have alot of purple and pink tops. I think it was all those Disney Princess races I have run.

  21. Brandi @ Java & Sole says

    March 1, 2016 at 2:35 pm

I generally wear capri’s as long as possible then switch to skirts! I canNOT run in shorts anymore – just can’t do it! I prefer a slightly heavier long sleeve verses a long sleeve with a jacket (less layers!) and prefer tanks over t-shirts. I actually realized the night before a late fall half (that was warmer than I expected) that I have Zero Go-To running t-shirts! Tons of favorite long sleeve and tanks – so I’m taking suggestions on favorite t-shirts!

Love all of your purple! It’s nice to have a power color you feel confident in – mine’s teal or mint green 🙂 Happy TOTR!

  22. Tricia@MissSippipiddlin says

    March 1, 2016 at 3:29 pm

For a training uniform, in the cooler months it is more than likely Fabletics leggings and a long sleeve top. For the summer months, Nike or Soffee shorts and a tank. Racing uniform would be a running skirt and compression socks of some type with sleeves or a tank depending on weather. Skirts don’t make my hips look so big, lol!

  23. Michelle @ Running with Attitude says

    March 1, 2016 at 4:52 pm

I love purple too! Unless the arctic temps have set in, you can usually find me in capris or a running skirt – shorts and my thighs do not play nicely together LOL!

I definitely have a running uniform and it is skirts all the way! Once I fell in love with Skirt Sports a long time ago I have never gone back. Love those Capris, Spandits?

Love the bright colors… even though most of what I own is dark, I do have a few pieces, mainly from Athleta that I love. I have never tried Spandits but I know so many people love them.

I am in AZ and it is already warm so I wear capris and a sports bra or tank. I need to find a good pair shorts that don’t ride. The last pair I wore had to be adjusted a million and one times.

I’m so boring and stick with my black capris. I have a few pair of “loud” capris, but it takes a really good body image day for me to put them on, lol.
