Relays, Ducks and Dogs

April 27, 2016

Do you relay? I sure do, especially when it’s for a great cause like this one is. As a Sweatpink Ambassador I was given the opportunity to partner with the United Relay of America and Aftershokz wireless stereo headphones. Select a leg of the United Relay of America and join me!

united relay

The relay kicks off in Seattle on April 27 then weaves its way across the country, ending in New York on May 24. Join one of three unbroken chains of runners and cyclists and have fun while raising money for your choice of awesome charities.

Save 30% when you register here to run a leg yourself. Or go here to my fundraising page to donate. I’ll be running in Chicago in May to benefit the Boston Children’s Hospital.

aftershokz

As I complete my 3.5 mile stage of the relay, I’ll be wearing Aftershokz wireless stereo headphones, featuring open-ear design and bone conduction technology. They’re sweatproof, secure and deliver premium sound, while allowing me to hear my surroundings for added safety.

Join me! Run a leg of the @UnitedRelay across America! #aftershokz #sweatpink #unitedrelay @fitapproach

duck nest1

Remember this duck nest last spring? While these eggs met an unfortunate end no thanks to an unknown nocturnal predator, mama and daddy duck were back again this year. They chose a better spot on the other side of the driveway this time, under a nice big bush. I had no idea they were there, until I heard the emergency quack signal I became all too familiar with last year. When I went over to investigate there was mama duck standing in the driveway quacking at a neighborhood cat. Later I checked under the bush and found a nest packed with eggs, thankfully undisturbed. Mama continued to sit. The other day I checked the nest again to find all the eggs cracked open and a whole brood of baby ducklings out swimming in the pond with mama. Here’s to success…and a huge sigh of relief!

Remy & Carlo 16

Last but not least, speaking of animals, happy birthday wishes to these two monkeys. Remy and Carlo are 16 today. Caring for them the past couple of years has not been easy but they were our first children and will always hold a very special place in my heart.

Have you ever done a relay? Celebrated a pet’s birthday in a special way?

I’ve never done a relay. I do however celebrate my dog’s birthday. I have a German Shepherd who’s almost 2.5 years old. For her second birthday we got her bison liver brownies and constructed her a little cake. Needless to say, she pretty much inhaled it. πŸ˜€

I don’t know how you do it. It was an intense 6 months with Chester (well, more, but it was only the last 6 months that were REALLY hard). But I do know, I had a cat in kidney failure I kept alive until she was 21! Yu do what you gotta do.Happy birthday to your cuties.

Ducklings — they must be so cute!

I so wanted to do the relay but the time it’s in my area isn’t good with my schedule. Whomp whomp. Maybe next year!

Happy bday to your pups!!! Hopefully they’re out of their weird non-toy, non-food eating stage. πŸ˜‰

And YAY for happy ducks!!!!! I think we need some pics of those little babies!!!

I had never heard of a relay like this. Interesting… but so much organization ! I would like to do a relay one day but am scared to run at night, especially since my depth perception is very poor when it is dark !

I did see this and there is a leg just about 30 -45 minutes North of me. I didn’t see anyone running the legs before that so I wonder what will happen if no one signs up?? I’m going to have to think about doing this. πŸ™‚
