Bad Things Come in Threes

August 19, 2018

It was an unsettled sort of week. The kids are officially back in school. I’ve got a high school senior (gasp) and a 7th grader. Here’s how the week in workouts went:

Monday: Rest
Tuesday: Run 3 miles w/plyo intervals
Wednesday: Run 5 miles
Thursday: Strength, lunch with Wendy
Friday: Rest, wanted a bike ride but it didn’t happen
Saturday: Run 12 swampy trail miles, swim
Sunday: CrossFit, swim

This week was all about change and new routines, although its too early to even settle in to one. Between school starting and me working, I had to reshuffle the deck quite a bit and figure out a way to be more efficient with my time.

And then all hell broke loose. For us parents, it’s probably pretty much inevitable, one day or another, sooner or later, you’re going to get that call. The call where the voice on the other end of the line tells you there’s been a car accident. Yeah we got that call this week.  Thank heavens nobody was injured but it still suuuucks to wade through insurance claims, police reports, car repair, whathaveyou.

If that weren’t enough, I learned this week that Lululemon Seawheeze race weekend and high school homecoming weekend and one and the same. Meaning the teenager most likely won’t be accompanying me to Vancouver. Sigh.

On top of it all, I checked on my Seawheeze hotel reservation in Vancouver, the one I mysteriously never got a confirmation for, so I made a second one several weeks ago. Yeah they still had no reservation on file. Is the universe trying to tell me something?

Moving on…

The blanket of humidity is hanging on. Shocker right? Once again I took my long run to the shady trails. Still, this one was no picnic. Not by a long shot, but I wasn’t backing down. Lots of marathoners in training were suffering along with me on the trails though. Good to know I’m not alone in my lunacy.

In other news…

We saw Crazy Rich Asians. It was good, but I expected it to be better. Go figure.

How was your week? Do bad things come in threes? See any good movies lately?Tell me something GOOD!

I’m linking up with Holly and Wendy for the Weekly Wrap.

You know we medical people totally believe the bad things come in 3s philosophy. I hope you’re done with all the nonsense. I hope Maddie is ok!! Yikes.

Better days are coming, my friend…

Oh jeez the car accident thing is every parent’s worst nightmare!Glad everyone is ok! Bummer on the Vancouver thing! I am going to be there right before you. You will have a great time there once you get there. Hope you have a better week

Oh no! So sorry to hear about the car accident but glad that everyone was okay. I can’t imagine how scary that must have been for you.

Very odd about Seawheeze and the lack of hotel reservations.

I hope that this upcoming week will be better for you.

Oh no….hope the daughter is alright. Even if there are no physical injuries, it’s scary getting back behind the wheel. Well….now that all three things have happened, it should be smooth sailing, right? Hope that’s the last of the turmoil 😉

Yes, things come in threes. I was very glad when I saved my third person from choking!! A good week; the humidity has been high here again and I’m glad I’m just keeping up the miles rather than actively training for something at the moment as I would have been very disappointed with yesterday’s run otherwise!

Sorry to hear about your daughter! I’m glad it sounds like she is ok. Still very stressful though I’m sure.
I agree that it seems like bad things come in 3s! Hopefully that means your bad luck is done for awhile now.

Sorry to hear about your daughter! I’m glad she is ok. I’m sure it was still really stressful to go through that.

We have definitely slogged through quite a bit of bad things lately. But there is always good stuff, too, and that’s what you have to focus on. Did you spill the beans on this mysterious job yet? Inquiring minds want to know.

I can’t even begin to imagine how frustrating not having a confirmed reservation must be. 🙁

So you got your three out of the way, good things must be coming!

I was so glad everyone agreed to run Sunday. It was a much nicer day.

Bummer on the car accident. I’m glad everyone is OK and feel your pain on the rest of it. Oh no on Seawheeze! I hope it works out soon.

Getting that call is so frightening! I’m glad everything is okay. Dealing with the details is such a pain.

I’m so sorry to hear about the accident, glad that no one is seriously hurt…I hope that things calm down for you this week! I’ve never done Seawheeze but heard great things…sorry that your reservation is having issues, how weird!

Car accidents are scary, and the aftermath is a giant pain in the butt. I’m so glad everyone is okay! That’s the most important part.

So glad to hear the car accident wasn’t as bad as it could’ve been and Thing 1 is okay! Those kind of phone calls scare the hell out of me!

Humidity sucks right now and I see no end in sight. Here’s to a better week my friend!

My cruise finished in Vancouver, and we didn’t stay any extra days. I did think of Seawheeze and how a race would give me a good reason to go back. I don’t really count the bus ride to the airport as “visiting Vancouver.”

That’s definitely the phone call I dread getting. Glad there were no injuries! I’ve been looking forward to seeing the movie too, but I feel like the books are always better.

Sorry about the car accident…so scary. I got that call early one morning when my daughter went to the mountains snowboarding. Thankfully everyone was fine and fortunately the insurance company handle everything. No car repairs because it was totaled.
Bummer that your daughter won’t be going with you, she was to run it with you too right? Darn school stuff! 😉

I’ve had my share of those phone calls. I’m glad no one was hurt! How can you not have reservations after making them twice? Maybe you should change hotels! Hope things settle down this week. Our youngest went off to college where so far they have matched him with a horrible dorm mate and screwed up his schedule. Fixable things, but still irritating inconveniences. Thanks for linking!

    Glad your daughter is OK!
Weird things with hotels afoot this year, had that for a conference. Hope they don’t miraculously find it in order to charge you
