My Summer Reverse Bucket List

August 20, 2018

Welp, summer’s slipping away faster than I’d care to admit. It’s darker in the morning, darker earlier in the evening, kids are back to school. Our Tuesdays on the Run topic asks you to review your Reverse Bucket List. That’s a fun phrase that means stuff you actually did rather than stuff you hoped or planned to do. Did you check off everything you wanted to?

Personally I did not set any running goals other than to in fact RUN, and to have fun doing it. At the end of the day running should be fun, right? I like to keep summers free and low-key so the Bucket List items I put out here on the blog back around Memorial Day were on the fun, low-stress side.

So which Bucket List Items made it to my Reverse Bucket List?

Pool Time. Check. Plenty of that.

Beach Time. Not a lot of that here at home but when we were in Florida for college visits in July, I enjoyed a daily dose of Vitamin Sea.

Friend Time. The highlight might have been when everyone came together for a blogger-palooza at RnRChicago.

Outdoor Concerts.ย We came up a little light on the outdoor entertainment front. We attended only one concert. Still one is better than none so I’ll take it. The teenager more than made up for our slackerly ways when she spent 4 days at Lollapalooza.

Backyard Grilling. Yep. We grilled more this summer than we have in a long time. Remember my Lemon Herb Grilled Shrimp and Grilled Chicken Quesadillas?

Fireworks over Biscayne Bay on the 4th of July were pretty special

Family Vacation. Even though the primary purpose of our time away together in July was for college visits, we had a wonderful time touring Atlanta then road-tripping down to Gainsville and finally Miami.

Although I won’t know for sure until the end of September, the most promising part of the summer for me was my health. After suffering since last year, I suspect my thyroid levels are on the rebound. My energy and positive outlook are back. I’ve lost weight and am feeling more like myself. While I won’t go so far as to say I’m lighting the world on fire with my running, I will say that I feel better even running in heat and humidity, than I did before.

Your Reverse Bucket List: Did you do everything you wanted to this summer? Stop by the Tuesdays on the Run Linkup and tell us! #running #runchat

Yay for reverse bucket lists!! (They make me feel so accomplished! ๐Ÿ˜› ) It sounds like you’ve had a pretty awesome summer so far–I hope the rest of it is equally as great! :]

So glad that you’ve been feeling well! It looks like you did alot of fun things this summer. I felt like I got alot of time outside in July, but since August hit the weather has just been cloudy and humid. I hope we still have some sunny and less humid days over the next few weeks.

Our vacation this year was fantastic. Seriously, they usually are. I think that low humidity was just such a please breath of fresh air, so to speak. Not to mention we’d basically not been on a real vacation in over a year.

We did go to one concert. We always grill a lot in summer, but the incessant rain & humidity made it challenging & we rarely ate outside. No drought here — we never even had to water the lawn!

Woohoo to feeling better! May it continue.

Our Chicago meet up was definitely one of the highlights of my summer! Spending lots of time with the family before the kids left was high on my list and it went by so fast! We still have one last vacation coming up and I am pretty excited about it

This summer has really been fantastic, hasn’t it? In spite of the horrendous humidity, it was a lot of fun. The blogger meet up was definitely a highlight for me too! Slowing down? Nah.

Sounds like you had a great summer! Grilling, the pool, travel, friends, and beach…I bet you hate to see summer end. I know I do!

Wow, what a great summer! I’m always sad to see summwe end, but especially this year as it signals the end of my maternity leave too.

I haven’t been to the pool and I am totally ok with that. It’s been a great summer and it’s not over yet!

So happy to hear that your meds are working. Looks like a pretty active summer for you considering all that crappy humidity and rain.

Mine wasn’t as fun as it could have been with all the work travel but I managed to boat most Sundays and go to CT one weekend and to NYC another.

I’m starting to post about Alaska, and that was the big list item of the summer. I can’t believe it’s over!! I did start grilling this summer and hope to do more next year. My gum graft rather put restrictions on what I could eat for quite a few weeks.

You really nailed your summer bucket list! And I’m glad that you’ve been feeling so much better. It’s sad that it’s already time to look back on summer, but I’m really looking forward to the fall. I hope that I can continue on this road to recovery from PF…

Looks like you checked off your bucket list of things to do this summer. What is it about grilling in the summer? I wish it could last all year….so good!

Glad you hit most of your summer fun goals! I may have missed most of my running goals (ok, I didn’t actually have any, but I barely ran), but I had a great summer of trips! It was fun to see you again and I look forward to seeing you this fall.

I’m very happy for you that you are feeling more like yourself and have that extra pep again! Thyroids are crazy little things…mine gave up last spring and threw my body into some WEIRD symptoms (hello urgent care thinking I was having a stroke)… Great job getting in so many fun things this summer!

Reverse bucket list…what a great idea! I’ll have to remember that for next summer. This summer I am just trying to get back to running but I have had a lot of things going on as well. New grandbaby, visiting NC and Va blueberry picking,,,,I did want to read more but haven’t had the time. Looks like you have had a really fun summer.
