Here we are again, it’s May! Here we’ve got grad parties, a wedding, Mother’s Day, Memorial Day and a whole slew of other stuff to enjoy and savor. I’m sitting down with Deborah, Coco and you for a little catch-up session over a nice beverage. Let the MAYhem begin!
Let the MAYhem Begin!
Over coffee I’d tell you I’m super excited to head to Blacksburg in just a couple of weeks to help daughter #2 move out of her dorm and head home for summer. Despite a rough first semester, things did a total 180 in January and now she loves school so much she admitted she is in no hurry to leave campus for the summer. She excelled academically all year long and snagged an amazing summer internship. This mama bear is proud!
Over coffee I’d tell you that ever since the first time I qualifiied for Boston back in 2008, I’ve been part of an online Boston Marathon training group. Originally it was part of Runner’s World Online, but we took our group private and have been together ever since. Some of my friends in there have run 18+ consecutive Boston Marathons. It’s been a special group to say the least. Recently though we lost one of our own. He died tragically in a skiing accident in Vail, on a run he’d skied hundreds of times. Ironically he was a ski instructor. Most importantly he was an amazing person who loved life and lived it to the fullest. We are all just devastated, to say the least.
Over coffee I’d tell you that little Romeo is finally big enough to wear a harness and is learning to walk outside. It’s been rough seeing all of our neighbors and having to recount Ozzy’s passing. It’s like tearing open a wound over and over. I suppose the healing will come in time, but for now it’s still very raw.
Over coffee I’d do some bragging that I coached a handful of athletes who ran London and Boston. A couple of them achieved their 6-star status. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, it is just as fulfilling to me to coach others toward this goal as it was for me to achieve it myself. I also recently realized it’s been 6 years since I got 6 my stars. Last week the World Marathon Majors invited me to get in the Sidney Marathon “lottery” they have for those with 6 stars. That’s a long shot at this point, and the Majors seem like they’ve become a total money grab, but I will never say never.
What would you tell me over coffee? What race would you run if you got the chance?
I’m linking up with Darlene, Michelle, Renee, Jenn and Zenaida, for Fit Five Friday. Join us!
I’m 100% with you on the WMM “money grab” angle — it’s getting a bit absurd. I keep getting emails inviting me to these so-called “Age Group World Championships.” Last year it was Sydney, this year it’s New York. Every time I click the link, it turns out to be a wildly expensive travel package… with a marathon bib tacked on.
Next year’s location is still a mystery, but I’d put money on it being Cape Town — the soon-to-be-anointed new major. Which, I have to admit, would actually work out very well for me! 😄
Thank you for the Romeo photo! We need more of those! And… you’re still in the “firsts” phase after losing Ozzy. The first walk outside, the first time you’re seeing that neighbor, the first time you pass a special tree (or whatever- you know what I mean). I know, it’s hard. It will get easier! The pain will still be there, but not as sharp. And on that topic- I’m sorry about your friend! Wow, life is unpredictable, isn’t it.
To end on a happy note- so glad your daughter likes school! It’s hard enough having them living so far away- if we think they’re not happy it’s even worse. Sounds like things are going well, and I’m glad she’ll be home- for a while? Where is her internship? Anyway congrats to her- and you should be proud!
I’m so sorry about the passing of your friend.
Great to hear that your daughter is wrapping up the year on a high. Will she be local for her internship?
Romeo is so cute in his harness 🙂
Enjoy your summer with your daughter, and congrats to her on a great year and securing an internship as a freshman.
I’m so sorry to hear about your friend. How tragic!
Oh, that’s so sad about your friend…so sorry for your loss (and that of your Boston group). Romeo is SUCH a little charmer! Great news about your daughter; congrats to her on the internship! I’m glad her freshman year went well, especially this recent semester. It sounds like she’s in her element 😉
Romeo is just adorable! Great news that your daughter is enjoying school and snagged a great internship. How cool that you still have a fun group of people to stay connected with from your first marathon. That’s really special!
I am so sorry to hear about your friend. How sad! On a lighter note, Romeo is so so cute!! He looks like he’d be a cute snuggle bug!
I’m glad to hear that J is enjoying school! And congrats to her on the internship. How nice to have things settling in.
Romeo is so cute–he makes me want to get another dog. Cocoa would have no part of that, tho!
What a mix of reasons for joy and sadness.
I’m so sorry to hear about your friend — that is tragic.
I’m glad Thing 2’s year got better and is ending on a high note.
Romeo is such a cutie!
Awww. College is a huge transition, and I am so glad Thing 2 ended the year on a positive. You should be proud.
I am so sorry for your loss. It’s so hard and unfair when people leave us too soon.
Romeo is the cutest little nugget. I adore him. There will always be an Ozzy shaped hole in your heart, but Romeo is surely healing in so many ways.
Let’s go, May.
Sending you lots of love for the loss of your friend and for Ozzy. 🙁 <3
Congrats to your daughter though on an awesome year and for getting that internship!
Romeo is too cute!!! We are happily dog-free in our household for now, but pictures like this really tug at my heart strings….
I am glad to hear things turned well for your daughter. That is great news about the internship! I am assuming it is back home.
