How Can It Be June Already?

June 5, 2025

How can it be June Already? I probably say that every year. Those first few wintery months of the year seem to crawl, but then time flies away anyway. I’m sitting down with Deborah, Coco and you for a little catch-up session over a nice beverage. I’m going with Starbucks Pike in my new mug from Chicago’s Starbucks Roastery.

How Can It Be June Already?

Over coffee I’d tell you we survived college move-out and we have a rising Sophomore home for the summer. I’m not sure how she did it (I suspect Amazon and various other online retailers are to blame) but she came home with exponentially more “stuff” than she originally brought to campus. She’s completed 3 weeks of her internship already. Time sure does fly, even when I’m doing my best to be present and savor every moment.

Ozzy last fall, on one of our walks.

Over coffee I’d ask you how your fitness journey is going. As you may know, for 5 years the Caveman and I walked together 2 miles in the morning and 2 in the evening. I often wondered to myself what health benefits all the walking actually had, because at the time it didn’t feel like there were any. When we lost Ozzy, the walking stopped and 2 months later, I’ve got a new roll of belly fat to show for it, so yeah those walks were beneficial. I’m happy to tell you we’ve resumed our walks. Only 2 miles a day instead of the usual 4 but we’ll get there. It’s funny how we tend to take things for granted until they’re gone.

Over coffee I’d ask you what shoes you’re loving…for running or otherwise. I’ve been enjoying lululemon’s Beyondfeel Trail shoe lately, but recently I was sent these PG7 shoes from Anta. I’ve only worn them on the treadmill so far but I have to say I love the cushioning. According to Anta, they are ultralightweight and responsive, with excellent energy return. I’d say that is absolutely true.

Over coffee I’d tell you my hip saga is up and down. Some days it feels pretty good and some days not. While I am able to run sometimes, most of the time running is not an option. I’ve decided to get a cortisone shot before we head out on vacation. The last thing I want to do it not enjoy myself due to hip pain. Ugh.

Of course I’ll leave you with a pic of the dynamic duo. There’s never a dull moment around here and I would not have it any other way.

What would you tell me over coffee? What are you looking forward to this month?

Funny how walking feels so “basic” until you stop! I’ve been walking a lot this week while tapering for my ultra on Sunday, and it reminded me just how effective it really is. Definitely the most underrated fitness activity out there. I’m glad you and the Caveman are getting back to it!

Sorry your hip is still being unpredictable. The cortisone shot sounds like a smart move – fingers crossed it clears the way for a pain-free, joy-filled vacation!

I have considered walking after dinner to ward off this weight gain I’ve been struggling with. It seems that running and strength training aren’t enough. So frustrating!

Your pups are too cute! Will they be going on vacation with you? And where are you going?

Your pupsters are so cute! What’s the newest ones name? Romeo and ?

Yes, walking is such a great basic exercise. Good for you guys for getting back into it!

    Love your dynamic duo!

Interesting that you noticed such a difference without your walks — they really do “count” and matter. Glad you are getting back to them.

Like Wendy, I’m trying to convince myself to start walking in the evening. I feel so much better when I do.

I am convinced that walking is the best exercise and I know it helps me a lot. We eat too late for after dinner walks but I get mine in daily earlier. Enjoy having the kids home this summer. Hope you have a fab family vacation

Whenever I encounter a healthy person in their 90s, they almost always say one of their keys to health is walking every day. So… maybe we should all make an “after dinner walking club.”
Either I’m losing it, or I missed a post somewhere because last I heard, you had Romeo. Who is the new one????? They are so, so adorable. Please include photos in every post or we will be very upset!

You probably know I’m all about the walking gig! I’m trying to get out for at least two walks every day (not including the short Max walks). My legs definitely look more toned during the summer months, and I know it’s due to all the additional walking that happens. The dynamic duo…SO adorable 😉

I truly believe walking is underrated – glad you’re getting back to your routine.

    The dynamic duo is adorable!

Fun to hear there’s a vacation on the horizon – can’t wait to hear where you’re headed.

I agree with Michelle. Walking is important. I ignore it. I say everyday I will walk at lunch and then here I am on the computer.

Have fun on vacation. Can’t wait to hear all about it.

    Those puppies!

I love walking, and I will walk anywhere. I think it’s so good.

It’s funny how Amazon makes it so easy to acquire things. Hopefully, the move back is easier!

Great job on the walking! I need to do that too, but even on Summer break I get tired in the evening, and just want to watch TV or read. Your puppies are adorable!
