Halloween Runfessions: Who Are You Calling Grandma?

Here we are, it’s the spookiest day to open up the Runfessional and I am so here for it. What will you be ‘fessing up to in our Halloween Runfessions?

Halloween Runfessions

I runfess that I got a comment recently that spooked me. Maybe spooked isn’t the right word, but let’s just say it gave me pause. I was flying home from Atlanta and as I got to my aisle seat, there was a gentleman sitting in the window seat, with the middle seat still open. He motioned to the middle seat and says to me “I’d like your grandchild to sit here”. Umm what?? I wasn’t traveling with a child and the Caveman was across the aisle. Not sure what to think or say, I gave him a blank look and said nothing. Then he said “I’m sorry I hope I didn’t age you”. Truth be told, I’m certainly of an age where I COULD have have a grandchild…and I’m not particularly offended that someone thought I looked like I had a grandchild. At this point in my life with kids that are 20 and 24 I’m not pining for grandchildren either. I runfess what astounds me is the assumption he made. What if I had no children at all and was not ok about it? I guess I thought I was beyond the prying era when people asked why I didn’t have kids, when I was going to have kids, if I wanted more kids, etc. Apparently I’m in the grandma era now.

As I mentioned above, we visited daughter #1 in Atlanta recently and had so much fun. After many losing seasons, Georgia Tech is undefeated and campus on game day was pure electric! I runfess though, that other than lots of walking and maybe a victory dance, no workouts took place. Whoops!

I’ve mentioned here many times that my job can be stressful. After stepping down from a very stressful position earlier this year, things have gradually improved. I’ve learned so much about boundaries and saying no. It should be no surprise then that I’m sleeping so much better. I runfess that what I did not expect is that for me, better quality sleep equals more fat burn. Say what? I know “they” always say how important good sleep is, but I guess I was thinking the amount of sleep one gets was the important thing. Now that I’m awake less during the night and getting more deep sleep, according to my Lumen Metabolism tracker I’m waking up in Fat Burn, which is desirable.

Ok your turn: What have you to runfess? How do you respond to inappropriate comments? Do you track your sleep?

Wow, that’s an odd comment for anyone to make about kids/grandkids, etc. They walk among us (and ride the same airplanes). That’s great news on the sleep you’ve been getting! While I don’t tracks my sleep (I don’t wear my Garminin, or any tracker, to bed), I have been getting a little more sleep. I’m still not where I “should” be, but I’m feeling more rested and am functioning well in my wake hours. Always a work-in-progress, though…

That is a weird comment for someone to make! Well, my mom was a grandma when she was younger than I am now. Since my daughter is getting married soon-I guess I will be a grandma soon!

Glad you are feeling less stressed and getting better sleep scores. First thing I do when I wake up is check my Oura sleep-its amazing how much better I feel with more sleep!

Oh wow, that “grandchild” comment, some people really have no filter! You handled it with such grace, Marcia.

And well done on getting your sleep routine so consistent! I track mine with my Garmin, my 7-day average is 7 hours 4 minutes with a sleep score of 74. Not terrible, but definitely not as steady as yours… I still need to master that “same bedtime every night” thing!
