It’s a new month and fall is in full swing, although it doesn’t feel like it here. It’s time to sit down with Deborah, Coco and you for a little catch up session over a nice beverage. Let’s get our October Coffee Date started!
October Coffee Date
Over coffee I’d tell you that I recently dragged home lots of the fun fall specialty things from Trader Joe’s. Maple butter, pumpkin spice coffee creamer, and pumpkin spice cold brew concentrate were among the haul. Sorry not sorry. I’m happy to report that I did not get the Pumpkin Spice Sheet cake because that would be excessive.
Over coffee I’d tell you I am looking forward to a little trip to Atlanta to visit daughter #1. The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets will be taking on the Virginia Tech Hokies in football and we are so there for it. Georgia Tech is 5-0 so far this season and, after enduring several lackluster seasons, it is so refreshing to see them WINNING! Even if they lose to the Hokies, we’ll be celebrating because that’s daughter #2’s team so it’s all good!
lululemon Seawheeze Half Marathon

Over coffee I’d ask you if you have any races coming up. While I no longer race, I am involved in bringing races to life and I am delighted to tell you that lululemon’s Seawheeze Half Marathon is coming back in 2026 after being paused back in 2020 due to the pandemic. I ran it back in 2018 and I will tell you it is one of the most beautiful race courses in the world. Entry is via lottery so if you are interested, get in!
Over coffee I’d ask about your weather. It continues to be unseasonably hot here in the Chicago area, and while I am not complaining, I am starting to worry about the Chicago Marathon. After running the very hot (and cancelled when I got to mile 22) Chi Marathon back in 2007, I still have some PTHD (post traumatic heat disorder) going on. I wouldn’t wish that weather on anyone.
What would you tell me over coffee? Any races? Any travel coming up?

Oh, you totally sent me down a Seawheeze rabbit hole! I read your 2018 recap and of course had to click over to the one where you got that ageist comment at packet pickup. Unreal. At least nowadays people are (mostly) used to runners crushing it well past 50.
Your Atlanta trip sounds so fun – and with your daughters’ teams facing off, it’s a win no matter what happens.
I applied for the London Marathon in April today – fingers crossed I get in!
How fun the the girls’ teams are opposing each other! Whoever will you root for? Have so much fun!
For years I wanted to do that Seawheeze half! Not sure I have it in my anymore but glad to hear it’s back up and running. College football is the best! Have so much fun at the game! You are like the Kelsey boys mom when th eagles played the chiefs 🙂
Ooh! I’m also looking forward to a trip to visit my college kid- but instead of going to a football game I’ll be going to his orchestra concert, lol. I don’t even know how NU is doing this year- I’m still a Baylor fan.
My son reports regularly on the weather up there, and he says a cool down is coming! I hope it’s in time for the marathon.
Ah your Atlanta trip sounds like so much fun – Enjoy!!
Now that’s gonna be a great football game! I love NCAA football, but my Hawks have a by this week (and need it after losing to the Hoosiers last weekend). I didn’t run the HOT Chi marathon, but my cousin did…she said it was such a tough one! She’d made it past the cutoff (?) when the event was cancelled, but was able to press on to the finish line.
How fun for TJs and for the game! Good luck!
Seawheeze was always on my list. Maybe one day!
We have a day trip to orlando, a weekend trip to Indianapolis, and then a longer trip to Blue Ridge for the rest of the year. I’m excited to be planning those.
I immediately thought of you when I saw the VT vs GT game coming up. How fun that you’ll be in attendance! Will both daughters be joining you? After such a rocky start to our season, it was fun getting last week’s win.
Oh, wow, on Seawheeze. That scenery is tempting. I love Vancouver!
Both your daughters are a big football schools — I guess that makes you college football fans now too!
I went to read about the race and your recap, those mermaids, must be fun to watch! I’ve never visited vancouver but would love to one day.
