First Runfessions of Fall

September 25, 2025

Here were are. It’s fall already and we’re well into the “ber” months. I don’t have to tell you how fast time will fly toward the end of the year. I don’t even find it odd or offensive to see ads for Christmas stuff at this point. It’ll all be here in a blink. Before we welcome October in all it’s peak fall color glory, it’s time to open the runfessional. Let’s do that right now, shall we?

First Runfessions of Fall

My ornery hip has been feeling (relatively) good lately. That said, I runfess I’m not running very much. A few run/walk intervals are really all I have to celebrate on that front, but I am still grateful. I runfess I’m afraid to press my luck. I feel like if I build miles or pick up my turtle pace, my hip will further degenerate, and I don’t want that. And what if the other hip decides to degenerate? Rational? Maybe not. Who knows?

I’m in a constant state of declutter here. Despite my best efforts, there’s always more to do. I heard an expert on the subject say that rather than asking if an item “sparks joy” you need to ask if you can live without it. I runfess that of course I can LIVE without lots of the stuff I have sitting around here. But do I want to?

I runfess that I’m still fighting the good fight against removable sports bra pads. Mostly I just pull them out and toss them. However recently I got a bra and chose to leave them in. Who knows why? They stayed put through a few washes. Then one of them folded over, leaving an unsightly bulge in the chestular region. In my infinite laziness, rather than wrestle it into place, I opted to just leave it there and do my workout. I was alone in the pain cave, so who would see?

Okay your turn: What have you to runfess? Any wisdom on decluttering?

I could not get my runfessions done with the holiday this week and now traveling again! I am also in a constant state of giving things away. Problem is I keep buying new stuff too! lol I at least try to donate every month or so I give myself credit for that
I also have not run since June and right now I’m feeling good and missing it

Decluttering was a huge beast I ignored for so many years. When I was forced to downsize, upon moving to my new (smaller) place, I had to tackle the monster, LOL. It was rather liberating, and it felt SO good to have it done. I am much more mindful of (almost) every purchase these days…if I’m not head-over-heels for it (or don’t have any viable space to put it, I (usually) take a pass. I’m glad your hip is in. A good mood these days! I hope that continues!

I’m glad your hip is cooperating, sometimes gratitude for the miles we can do is the smartest strategy.

And bra pads! The eternal nemesis! They crumple, vanish into the laundry abyss, reappear looking like origami projects, and I spend way too many hours of my life trying to wiggle them back into place.
Surely SOMEBODY can invent a better solution?

I’m dealing with the decluttering beast myself (see my runfessions) – feels like a constant process.

And, you know I feel you on the hornary hip. I’m glad it is cooperating and not causing you pain – that’s a win!

Ah, my arch nemesis- the removable sports bra pads. WHY??? I almost always wrestle them back into place, cursing and seething the whole time. Who thought this was a good idea, anyway?
I don’t think i like that guide for decluttering- I mean, I could live without my kitchen table or my “Crazy Pumpkin Lady” mug. I would rather ask, do they spark joy? That said… I do need a good decluttering.
Glad the hip is holding steady! Run/walk intervals for the win.

It’s good to hear that your hip is doing pretty well at the moment. Here’s hoping it stays that way!

I wash my sports bras in laundry bags made just for bras and rarely have a problem with the removable pads moving out of place.

Decluttering is an ongoing thing around our house. And as I clean out my mom’s house, I have to be strong and not let my emotional tie to her things bring them into our home.

I’ve been mixing in 2 full walk days in to my running and I’ve been enjoying it! Hope the hip continues to hold up!

I usually throw away the pads but have one bra that I have them in (and out) and in – LOL. The bulge would drive me crazy.

I have been giving things away all the time – I have way too much stuff – especially running stuff!

The bra pads are the worst! Build them in or leave them out. Period!

I think some items have to spark joy and then sometimes, I do the 6 month test – if I haven’t thought about it in 6 months, it’s gone. Just depends on how brutal I”m feeling lol!

Im glad you’re moving, but I totally understand you being nervous about it. Injuries can be scary.

OMG… it’s constant struggle with those removable pads. Why? If you need them, they should be permanent. Otherwise don’t include them.

Decluttering is so overwhelming and the longer you wait, the worse it is… Everything I think about it, I go for a run instead. LOL.

I’m all about not causing further irritation or damage these days. Run/Walk is my vibe when I feel like running… and I runfess I’m definitely decluttering for the last several months, even earning some cash on Vinted with some clothes, shoes, and books that I just don’t need anymore but truly deserve a good home.

I also have decided not to give any energy to early holiday “stuff” – you’re right it will definitely be here before we know it!!

marciashealthyslice I'm a working mom who, as part of a mid-life challenge, decided to run a marathon for kicks. I didn't plan on it becoming a hobby, but it did. I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
