Just like that, August slipped away, along with the suffocating heat and humidity, also taking with it a considerable amount of daylight. September eased in, bringing some most-welcome cooler air, complete with a hint of fall. I did a decent job of being present rather than rushing through summer, and I plan on staying present into fall as well. It’s time to pause for a minute, grab a drink and sit down with Deborah, Coco and you for a little catch-up session.
Staying Present Into Fall
Over coffee I’d tell you college drop-off went pretty smoothly this year. While it’s never “easy”, it does get easier, if that makes any sense. Daughter #2 is a couple of weeks into her semester and loves being back on campus. I’m sure her new apartment and a car help just a bit. Just knowing she is happy and thriving makes mama bear happy as well. That said, we’ll be heading back to Blacksburg soon for a fun, football weekend. I can’t wait.
Over coffee I’d ask you how you follow blogs. I was using Bloglovin, however it seems to be working one minute and gone the next. I’m thinking maybe it’s time to find something else.
Over coffee I’d ask what you did over the Labor Day weekend. We had friends over, golfed and attended a get-together. I made a key lime pie that came out amazing, however I managed to burn my wrist on the oven rack and I now have a 3″ scar to show for it. It’s ugly and it still hurts, so not fun at all.
Over coffee I’d ask you if fall has arrived in your home. While I won’t do anything Halloweenish until October, it is my goal this weekend to get my fall decor out. Let the record show, I have burned a fall candle or two already and they were amazing. I will admit that it disturbed me more to see Halloween stuff in early July than it does to see Christmas stuff now. Why is that?
What would you tell me over coffee?

The too-early Halloween stuff bothered me also. Why the rush to get to each new season?
YES!! A pic of the last slice is better than no pic and that Key Lime Pie looks amazing!
I love how you’ve carried that “being present” mindset into fall – such a good reminder not to rush the seasons. Glad to hear college drop-off went smoothly and that daughter #2 is happy and thriving.
I also hope that your workload is not as heavy as it was this time last year.
I definitely get not easy but easier…
It’s feeling very fall-like here in the mornings and evenings, though we’re still hitting 80 during the day. I’m ready for all things fall and am looking forward to decorating some this weekend – nothing Halloween for me either until October.
We were up in WIsconsin over Labor Day–my sister her hubs joined us. We had good food and a lot of laughs! Summer is indeed too short!
Key Lime Pie is one of my favorites. Earlier this summer, I decided to make one, but lo and behold, I had no sweetened condensed milk. I found a recipe from scratch, and yes, it was a lot more work, but it was really good!
It never gets easy to send the kiddos back off but it does get more common I guess. I have a hard time saying goodbye to my daughter every time she does back to Chicago or I leave here there. For now, I.am enjoying having my son close by. It is getting a little cooler and I am a fall girl so bring it on!
Hope your writst is feeling better! Had friends in town from Sat-thursday which was nice. We also golfed.
No fall decor, but so glad for the weather until this two day summer
I get blog posts emailed to me, which works except when it doesnt
I’m so sorry about your wrist! Ouch!
Sorry but I am all about Halloween! I feel like we always miss Halloween because of Bandtober, so I want to enjoy it as long as I can (it’s my favorite). This year, senior night is actually on October 31 so we will be at the football game vs enjoying the trick or treaters!
Labor Day was sort of lowkey. I did a race and then we went out for lunch.
It’s good to hear that your daughter is off to a good start in her sophomore year of college.
Fall is gradually arriving here in Virginia. I’m ready to decorate for fall, but we’re having some work done in our house and I plan to wait until the guys leave and I can clean up before putting anything out.
