Well summer, you were kind of a beast this year. While there’s still almost a month to go before the season officially fades away, once school starts, it just doesn’t feel like summer anyway. I don’t know about you, but I’m running toward fall. Running you say? Even with a dicey, geriatric hip? Read on as we open the Runfessional for some final Runfessions of Summer.
Running Toward Fall
This has been my “summer of being present”. As a result, I runfess I’ve been fairly absent on social media, and have gotten out of the habit of taking pics “for the ‘gram”. I really wanted to slow down and savor our fleeting summer days and most importantly, enjoy having daughter #2 home with us. I doubt I’ll be as lucky next summer.
I runfess that my hip has been feeling pretty good lately. How good? I’m so glad you asked. So good that I actually tried running a few steps. When that was pain free, I ran a few more. While I’m by no means ready for “prime time” running, I am doing some run/walk intervals and I’m calling that a big win.
I’m also happy to report that our walking game is back on point. We cover 2 miles at dawn and 2 miles at dusk most days. I runfess I’m doing those walks in the Atom Fusion from Kuru. Not only is it great for workouts in the gym, the stable, supportive design and breathable mesh construction make them perfect for miles out on the pavement too, and they’re oh so comfy. I wore my Kuru Atom 2 shoes all through Europe this summer, covering 20,000 steps a day and they felt absolutely amazing. I am a big fan of comfy shoes. Who isn’t?
Okay your turn! What have you to runfess? What shoes are you loving? Any fun Labor Day plans?
That’s such great news on the happy hip! Do you think the new shoes are a factor? I’m glad to hear your summer was filled with many “in the moment” memories:-)
Congrats on easing back into running!
Also, I love that you have picked up your walking routine again. I’m sure that feels great now with the crisp mornings.
Enjoying time with daughter #2 sounds so special!
Yay for no hip pain! I hope this continues!
And I’m with you on less social media posting this summer. Like you I’ve been very focused trying to stay present.
Here’s to a great Fall!
I also have those Kuru shoes and really appreciate their versatility and comfort. Glad your hip is feeling bettter-sometimes our bodies just need time off from running. Also been posting less often bc I don’t’ want to take the time to respond and interact. The time with our families is precious! Enjoy
I’m starting to feel like I have a dicey, geriatric hip (I like that description!) Glad yours is feeling better. And glad you’re back to your walking schedule! Walking always feels good on my hip.
I agree- once school starts, summer is over. Even if it’s still 90+ degrees here. SIGH.
Glad to see you’re back to your walking routine and running some, too! Yay and the cooler weather has made it so very pleasant! I tried the Kurus, too! Great for walking!
Good news that you’ve resumed walking and that your hip has responded to resting it. Bring on those runs!
Savoring the summer days with your daughter sounds like the right choice! I was pleasantly surprised by how much time my kids still want to spend with us, but I do miss the casual together time of being in the same house for an extended period — I guess that’s what family vacations are for.
I haven’t heard of Kuru shoes — they look great!
I’m sprinting towards fall as fast as I can! I just want cooler days and cozy nights! Please!
From what I could tell, you had an incredible summer and I love that for you! It’s so special to have those moments and make those memories!
No big plans. I’ve got two clients that I’m dropping in on, and A’s girlfriend is in town, so I’m going to run 5K and just kind of relax a little. I’m tired.
I’m glad to hear the hip is feeling much better! Hooray for getting back to running!
