Officially Looking Toward Fall

July 31, 2025

While I will never wish summer away, I’ve had enough of the incessant heat and humidity. It’s been too hot to even enjoy the outdoors. That said, I have to admit I’m officially looking toward fall. Today I’m sitting down with Deborah, Coco and you for a little catch-up session over coffee.

Officially Looking Toward Fall

New addition to the travel collection.

Over coffee I’d tell you I’ve been golfing lately. Before the kiddos came on the scene, the Caveman and I were both avid golfers. When we lived in England, it was not unusual to hit the links 3x/week. We played all the great courses. Once the kids came though, the clubs were put on mothballs…well in the basement…to be continued at a later date.

That day came a couple of weeks ago. We went to the driving range and believe it or not, my clubs were working just as well as they were 20+ years ago. It was completely unexpected and very encouraging. So I polished up my clubs and booked a few tee times. I’m back at it! Yay!

Over coffee I’d ask you about how your work is going. I’d tell you that I’m now working 4 longer days instead of 5 shorter ones, and so far I’m really enjoying that extra day off.

Over coffee I’d ask if you’ve seen “Summerween” promotions. Apparently it’s a marketer’s way of jumping right over to Halloween, smack dab in the middle of summer. I don’t even care to hear the phrase “back to school” earlier than mid-July so rest assured, while I love Halloween, I’ll have none of this “Summerween” nonsense. October will be here soon enough.

Papa with his grandchildren

Over coffee I’d tell you that we celebrated my FIL’s 90th birthday this month. What I especially loved is that Thing 1 came in from Atlanta for the event and stayed with us for an entire week. Having both kiddos with us on vacation for 2 weeks and then home for another week was pure joy for this mama bear.

Over coffee I’d tell you that, after being “off the rails” while on vacation, I finally got myself back into the “fat burn” sweet spot, thanks to my Lumen Metabolism tracker. Lumen really helps me understand the best times to eat carbs according to my unique metabolism, as well as the impact of sleep and exercise. If you’re interested in trying Lumen for yourself, they have an early access sale going on right now where you’ll save 15% instead of 10% when you use code MARCIAK.

What would you tell me over coffee? How are you handling this heat? Are you a fan of “Summerween”? How do you feel about summer slipping away?
What are you looking forward to in fall?

Happy Birthday to your FIL! He looks great! And how nice that all the grandkids were there, including your girls. My FIL turned 93 earlier this month, and we took him out for lunch with the kids. So nice!

I used to golf a lot before kids. I was never very good, but I sure enjoyed it!

Ha, I’ve never heard the term “Summerween” but it’s definitely a thing. My sister sent me a photo of Halloween stuff out at TJ Maxx BEFORE THE 4TH OF JULY. Now that’s definitely a bit early.
Aw, Happy Birthday to your FIL! And how fun to have both kids home for a week. That’s the best- and you had an extra day off to enjoy them, thanks to your four day work week!

I have wondered if I would like golfing? It seems kind of slow and long so IDK-my hubs used to play and now. My son is interested so we’ll see. It would require new outfits-lol. It is hard to get back on track after vacations isn’t it?!but worth it!

I’ve not heard of Summerween but no thanks LOL! I’m ready for fall for sure but no desire to see the early holiday promotions.

My hubs and I took golf lessons before we had kids and I’ve often wondered it we’d tried it again now that the boys are older.

    Happy birthday to your FIL!

So fun to hear that you’re back on the golf course! I love that your clubs still have some magic in them after all these years clearly muscle memory is real! Plus, you will get a lot of walking done. We tried golfing in Thailand about 20 years ago and I hated it with a passion. But maybe I should give it another try?

That photo of your FIL with all the grandkids is so sweet – what a special moment for him (and for all of you)!

I have tried golfing, and it’s just not my gig. I’m a patient person, but not with a golf club in hand, LOL. I did play some, years ago, in a ladies evening league and that was fun because we usually played “games” in stead of our own ball. Golfing with my ex, though, was painful…

    My mil turns 100 soon.

I used to golf. I wasn’t good and didn’t have time to practice. I do have clubs. In the basement. Maybe sometime I will try it again.

I do want to work 4 days only!!!

OMG. We need to talk golf. It’s my new thing this summer and I’m falling in lust.
If summerween brings fall weather, I’m here for it. We got it today and it was a delicious golf day.

It’s so interesting the transition to having time to explore your own interests and adventures. While I don’t see golf in my future, I love that you guys are getting back to it.

    I. Love. Summerween. Halloween is my favorite, and I am all about bringing it back. Christmas in July has been a thing forever, so might as well go the rest of the way. I’m sure that part of it is that it’s been about 1000 degrees every day and I just want cozy sweaters and hot chocolate, but that’s ok.

How fun to have your Atlanta daughter with you for so long! And happy 90th birthday to your f-i-l!

While I am a fan of fall decor and look forward to the lower humidity, I’m no longer a fan of what follows… long cold and dreary days. I’m not really a huge fan of Halloween so I won’t be getting into Summerween. As for what I am looking forward to in the fall? College football!

I also never heard of Summerween, but have seen Halloween stuff at the stores. No! It is too soon. I wonder if I will like golf. It just looks so slow. I am over this heat – and it came in late in the season. I like Summer because I am on break, but prefer Fall.

Ah, that extra day off sounds awesome! My workplace recently implemented a new system where we get rewarded more for our efficiency, so I get a half-day off every week as long as I can keep up with all the demands, so I’ve been working hard on that!

    Happy birthday to your FIL!

I’ve heard of Christmas in July but not Summerween, hehe. I’ve already started seeing stuff for Halloween in the stores though!
