Sitting Down for Coffee One Week Post-Op

February 5, 2026

Oh February I thought you’d never get here! January was a lot to get through and the grand finale for me was hip surgery. Thankfully that’s all in the rearview mirror now and I’m on the road to recovery. How long or winding that road may be is yet to be determined.

I’m joining Deborah, Coco and you for the February edition of the Ultimate Coffee Date.

Sitting Down for Coffee One Week Post-Op

Over coffee I’d tell you that each day since my surgery feels like I’m wading in quick sand. I seem to go from one pill to another. Is it time for the antibiotic? Anti-inflammatory? What about aspirin? Pain? Did I get up and move? Do my breathing exercises? Who’s stopping by today? Physical therapist? Nurse? Both?

Over coffee I’d tell you that shortly after waking up in recovery the nurse brought me some water and asked if I wanted coffee. Coffee? Seriously I can have coffee? You know I said yes! They probably offered it to help me get moving up and out of there. Basically as soon as I could move my toes they got me up to walk around the unit, climb stairs and yes, pee. Then it was adios!

The express nature of the whole ordeal aside, I was happy to be able to roll out of there and go home. Home is where I’ve been ever since and I won’t be driving anytime soon. I am so grateful for modern medicine and an excellent care team.

Over coffee I’d tell you I have an anterior incision, which is supposed to result in better range of motion and a quicker recovery. I’ve advanced from the walker to a cane and last Wednesday I was told by my PT that the cane is no longer necessary. I don’t wanna jinx myself but so far, I think this whole thing is going as well as it can. To be up and walking around unassisted, less than a week after surgery kind of blows my mind.

Over coffee I’d ask you if you’re excited for the Olympics. I do love a good Olympic games and having that to watch while being laid up in recovery mode is pretty perfect. Daughter #1 has been here all week playing nurse and it’ll be fun to watch with her as well.

Over coffee I’d tell you that from the moment I arrived home after surgery, Romeo has not left my side. He is very watchful and protective when medical staff is here. He is my loyal love dog for sure.

What would you tell me over coffee? What Olympic sports are your favorite? Do you have any Valentine’s Day plans?

Oh wow, one week post-op and already off the walker and ditching the cane?! Nice job, Marcia!

It sounds intense though, with all the pills, exercises, and appointments. Nice that your daughter can be with you.
And Romeo glued to your side the whole time…sweetest nurse ever.

Olympics, healing and daughter time sounds like the perfect recovery setup. Keep going strong!

I’m so happy and amazed that you are doing well! Yes, it sounds like everything is going great. I’m so glad that M is there with you. I’m sure the time is extra special, and that might be why you’re feeling so well. And there’s nothing better than a sweet pup by your side!

I’m so glad your recovery is going well. It’s great your daughter is able to be with you — and Romeo too!

So many ortho surgeries are out-patient these days. I guess they figured out that everyone recovers better at home.

Between your daughter, Romeo, and a home health care team, it sounds like you’re in excellent hands! Here’s to continued recovery, and may it go as well and quickly going forward as it did during the first week. And how perfect that you have the Olympics to watch while convalescing!

This is all so great! It sounds like the recovery is going well- your daughter is there- you have the Olympics to watch- and ROMEO!!! What more could you want??? Oh and also you have a brand new hip. Seems like everything is proceeding perfectly. Enjoy the Olympics!

Awh, sweet sweet Romeo 😉 Glad to hear all went well, and your recovery seems to be on target. I always think of you when I see figure skating. A HS classmate has a son on the bobsled team (this is his second Olympics), so that will be fun to watch his team in action. I hope your recovery continues to go well!

Oh, Romeo’s face is too sweet! I love that he’s taking care of you!

I’m not watching the Olympics live, but I’ll catch bits and pieces where I can. I’m on the road so much and it gets overwhelming to keep up.

I hope your recovery continues to go smoothly!

Hi Marcia! It feels like it’s been too long! I am very glad to hear that your hip surgery went well and that recovery is progressing nicely. I just had dental surgery and kept confusing myself with all the pills I had to take, so I can relate!

Our pets always seem to know when we need them, it’s nice to have a furry cuddly friend by our side.
