I’m so happy to say goodbye to frigid February and welcome in March, even though we all know March can be raw, snowy and cold too. March is the month of spring though, and that’s what I’ve set my sights on. I’m joining Coco, Deborah and you for an almost-spring coffee date.
Almost-Spring Coffee Date

Over coffee I’d ask if you have any spring break travel plans. It’s going to be pretty quiet around here, since we aren’t traveling until later in the year. It’s a different story for our kids though. Daughter #1 is headed to Australia and daughter #2 will be enjoying spring break in South Carolina. I’ll miss having her home for the break but it is what it is. Pickup time in May will be here before we know it.
Over coffee I’d give you an update on my bionic hip. I’m grateful to have had a pretty amazing recovery so far, although of course there’s a long way to go before healing is fully complete. I traded the walker for a cane 2 days post-op and I was done with the cane and walking fully on my own a couple of days after that. There was soft-tissue soreness of course, and some pretty prolific bruising, but overall I cannot complain. I’m eager to be on the comeback trail.
My workouts are sort of a hybrid of PT and exercises I’m carefully adding back in. I am in no rush. Many have asked if I will run again. The answer is I plan to. The jury is out though on just how much running I will do.
Over coffee I’d tell you that we are approaching the first anniversary of Ozzy’s passing and I’ve been dreading this week for awhile now. The week leading up to it was pure chaos as we frantically went from vet to vet to vet before finally getting an accurate diagnosis. By the time we did, it was too late and he did not respond to the meds.
Of course I love Romeo and Monty, but Ozzy left a hole in my heart and I miss him every single day. To add insult to injury, the first vet that misdiagnosed him has sent a couple of notices saying “Ozzy is overdue for his shots”. Seriously?
Over coffee I’d ask you if you are a fan of springing forward. I know many are not, but personally I am all for more daylight, although it’ll be darker in the morning again. Here in Chicagoland, we’ve already gained over 2 hours of daylight since the winter solstice and I love it.
Over coffee I’d ask if you saw what happened at the Atlanta Marathon. Apparently the lead pace vehicle led the top three elite women off course, adding roughly 2 minutes to their time.
What would you tell me over coffee? Ever make a wrong turn on a race course? Any spring races or travels coming up?

Nice job on your hip comeback, Marcia! It will take a few months, but I am sure you will be back to running again.
That vet sending reminders for Ozzy’s shots though… wow. That would sting. Automated systems are efficient but sometimes painfully tone-deaf.
Our days are becoming shorter here in South Africa – and I’m enjoying the cooler days although for next week we will have another heat wave – hopefully the last one!
Oh, that’s going to be a hard anniversary. It’s hard enough to lose a loved one, and even harder when you feel like it didn’t have to happen that way. I would be sending that vet a terse and angry email. Anyway… sending hugs your way… and give the new pups lots of hugs as well. They’ll never replace Ozzy, but they help so much, right?
Yay for your hip! Yes, I would totally be planning to run again. It is AMAZING what a new hip can do!
Not a fan of turning the clocks ahead, but it is what it is. I’m already looking forward to fall (ha- you can tell I live in Florida!)
I am so glad to read that your recovery is going so well. Sounds like you are taken your recovery very smartly, slow and steady. WE have a quick ski trip next week that sees crazy in the midst of all the wedding hoopla but here we go!
We’re planning travel later in the year too so spring break will be low-key – I’m just looking forward to having my youngest home!
Good grief those automated messages from the vet are just all kinds of wrong! Sending hugs for Ozzy’s anniversary.
It’s great to continue to see your positive recovery updates! I hope everything continues heal well!
Ugh, although I never had the privilege of meeting Ozzy, I dearly loved all the sweet pics you shared of him. I’m glad you have Romeo & Monty to give you comfort. Hugs to you. I’m glad your recovery is going so well. Onward.
That Alanta situation is so wild especially on the heels of the course being short last year. They need to organizers!
So sorry on Ozzy reminders. That vet though woof, shouldn’t a practice manager do homework?
I’m sending love and hugs your way as you make your way through the first anniversary of Ozzy’s sickness and passing. I’d be tempted to send a “reminder” reply to the vet of the “misdiagnosis” and kindly ask to be removed from their distribution list.
Glad your post hip replacement recovery is going so well!
Yes, I’ve been following the Atlanta debacle pretty closely this past week. What a mess!
I’m glad your recovery is going so well. I’m sure it pays off to be smart about it and as patient as you can stand!
I’m sorry you’re so sad about Ozzie. I know it’s a reflection of how much joy he brought to your life, but it’s so hard.
The Atlanta marathon debacle is astounding. It seems they are doing things to mitigate the consequences at least.
truly happy for you that your recovery is going well. And while we didn’t have the same surgery. I too know I’ll run again but I just don’t know what that will look like. I’ll let it happen when it happens and we’ll see. I think at this point I will be grateful for a non-stop 5K.
losing a pet is so hard and some pets leave a much bigger hole in our hearts than others. thinking of you and imagining Ozzy in a good place frolicking with my kitty Charlie over the rainbow bridge x
You are doing so great! I’m so proud of your recovery!
And Australia! How exciting!
You are in my heart as you approach this heavy day. That vet sounds terrible and I’m so sorry you have to deal with those messages.
Atlanta was a mess! I have gone the wrong way in a race… Almost half a mile! The course was terribly marked and the court marshals weren’t paying attention. We weren’t on track to podium or anything, but it was kind of awful.
