Kuru Atom 2 Slip-On Review

April 30, 2026

Seriously how is it May already? I should know by now how quickly time passes. It’s the perfect time to sit down with Coco, Deborah and you for a little catch-up session.

Let’s Catch Up Over Coffee

Over coffee I’d tell you I had my final post-op hip appointment and I’ve been cleared for ALL activities. You heard that right: ALL. All as in running too. I did not see that coming. That said, I’m going to proceed with caution and not rush into anything. I did head out to the trail for a power walk with some very…with emphasis on very…brief jog intervals. It went great. My hip was still happy later on, when she’d normally complain if she was going to. Still though, I’m not rushing anything.

Over coffee I’d ask you how the spring weather is where you are. While we’ve had a few gorgeous, warm days, April was the wettest month on record for the Chicago area with over 11″ of rain. That’s over 200% of our normal rainfall. We’re currently in a “cold pattern” with the “F” word (frost) in the forecast. Honestly I’m over all of it.

Over coffee I’d tell you that I did jump the gun and plant most of my flowers already. Sorry not sorry. I really wanted to get that done before I went back to work. Looks like I may be covering said flowers to shield them from that “F” word I told you about. Our official last frost date isn’t until May10, so I knew I took a gamble. I live on the edge like that.

Weren’t we just dropping her off a few weeks ago??

Over coffee I’d tell you daughter #1 is vacationing down under for a month and it’s been lots of fun living vicariously through her. I’d also tell you we’re picking up daughter #2 from college in less than 2 weeks. Suffice it to say, I can’t wait. It’s quite possible this will be the last summer she’s home with us.

Over coffee I’d tell you that over my 3-month medical leave I did a lot of soul searching as to what truly brings me joy. You already know I used the time off to hone my sourdough baking skills. What you don’t know is I got my cottage food license and I’ve opened my own little micro bakery.

I bake what I feel like and do weekly drops that local people can order for pickup. It’s been fun so far. Who knows where it’ll go?

Kuru Atom 2 Slip-On Review

Over coffee I’d ask you what gear you are loving right now. Kuru sent me a pair of their new Atom 2 Slip-Ons and I am in heaven. The classic Atom 2 is my all-time, go-to shoe. It’s so cushy and comfy, I wear it literally everywhere, whether I’m out walking the dogs, working out or grabbing groceries. During my recovery from hip surgery, getting down to tie my shoes was not the easiest task. Slipping on comfy shoes I did not need to tie was wonderful! I highly recommend Kuru shoes for those who prefer a wider toe box, spend long hours on their feet, and/or are challenged with plantar fasciitis. They feel SO good. Like a hug for your feet!

What would you tell me over coffee?

Cleared for ALL activities!! That must have felt surreal to hear! I love how you’re handling it though, a few cautious jog steps instead of going full send. That’s the discipline that will actually get you back properly.

And WAIT! A micro bakery?! That escalated quickly from “a bit of sourdough” to licensed operation! 😄 I had a feeling you were heading in that direction!! I only wish you were in my neighbourhood…

You ran! Or, jogged. That’s exciting!!!
Hmm, Kuru shoes- wide toe box, long hours on my feet, plantar fasciitis. I can check all the boxes. Maybe i need to try these.
Have fun with your daughter home! Yes, these years are going by alarmingly fast.

Congrats on being cleared for all activities! I think you’re smart to take it slow on returning to running – it will be there for you whenever you’re ready.

I love that you’ve opened a micro bakery! I have marveled at the creations you’ve shared on Threads — let me know if you ever start shipping orders 😉

I love the Kuru shoes too – recently tested out the Roam 2 and can’t stop wearing them! I’ll have to take a look at those slip ons.

Your micro bakery sounds like a fun (and ambitious!) venture! I hope it goes well. We might have the F word flirting with us overnight ad well….

That’s awesome that you’ve been cleared for ALL activities! And how wonderful that your hip felt good after those short little running intervals.

Time really does seem to speed up when our kids are in college. Enjoy your daughter’s company this summer! We’re planning to go down to Blacksburg for a couple of games this fall, perhaps we will be there at the same time!

I’m really happy to hear that you have been cleared to start running again. What great news!
It feels more like summer than spring here!
My favorite shoes are the Brooks Ghost.
And just yesterday we have planted the sunflowers in our garden.
    Have a good week end.

Wow, so many fun updates! I wish I lived close enough to buy some of your bread.

Thanks for the shoe review. My Mom likes slip on sneakers — I’ll have her check them out.

Ahhh, yayyy! Congrats on being cleared for everything!! Glad to hear your hip has been happy through the things you’ve done so far! <3

That's amazing that you've opened your own micro bakery! 😀 Glad you've been having fun with it! :]

Those shoes sound suuuper comfy! A "hug for the feet" = the besttt, hehe.
