It’s that time of year where life just seems to pick up steam, if you know what I mean. It’s prom season, the weather is improving…sometimes…and the end of the school year is imminent. It’s also back-to-work time for me, as my medical leave is nearing its end. But first? You guessed it. Let’s open up the Runfession Friday Linkup.
Runfession Friday: Back to Work Edition
After a winter that seemed like it’d hang around forever, we had some REALLY nice (and some horrendous, stormy) days in April. While the last frost date here in the Northern Chicago ‘burbs isn’t until May 10, I runfess I started dragging out my garden stuff. I thought about doing some planting but I know better than to tempt Mother Nature that way.
I’m at the 3 month post-op point with my bionic hip. So many people are asking when I’ll start running again. I runfess it’s gotten a little annoying. While I am cleared to do many things, it takes a full year for the bone to grow completely into the implant. Rest assured I will not be running anytime soon and that’s fine with me. The last thing I want is to make the implant loosen or need a revision. No thank you.
I’m thrilled to tell you that we finally put a summer vacation on the calendar. While I won’t tell you exactly where we’re heading, I will tell you that there is “canyoneering” involved. While I’m usually the first one in line when it comes to adventure, I runfess I’m not quite sure what to think about this yet.

Wow, three months!!! That’s amazing, and quite a milestone in your recovery journey. I’m excited to get some flowers going outside as well, but who knows when Momma N is gonna wave her “wand of weather doom” again?
So… when are you going to start running again? 😂🤣
Haha, I guess people mean well. You are right to play it safely, after all, you’re in for the long game.
Going back to work sounds like a shift too… not quite recovery mode, not quite normal yet.
And canyoneering?! Oh my goodness, I’d be terrified! Can’t wait to see how it plays out!
How do you feel about going back to work? I’m glad you’re feeling well enough for that! Congrats on hitting the 12 week mark!
Congrats on hitting the 3-month mark. And, yes absolutely no rush to return to running – I’ve seen some people back at a mere couple of months post surgery and it always leaves me shaking my head.
Canyoneering sounds interesting…can’t wait to hear more.
Yeah, three months isn’t really THAT long. I like what Catrina said, you’re in this for the long haul. No need to rush back to running. But- glad you’re feeling good and cleared to do other things.
What is this bout canyoneering??? I can’t wait to hear more.
times flies… glad to hear how well you are doing.
looking forward to hearing about your summer trip.
Canyoneering!? Good that you have the new hip 😉
Hope the return to work goes smoothly and hope the spring returns to Chicago for good!
Oh, gosh, I hadn’t heard about that one year timeline before. It makes sense!
I hope your reentry to work isn’t too rough!
Canyoneering sounds adventurous for sure!
As Darlene wrote “Time flies” and you will come back to run as before. I lived a similar story after the fracture of my femur and the subsequent removal of the implant one year later.
How do you feel to come back at work? I made 2 different works in my life: in the Coast Guard and in the Port Authority. I only miss the work in the Coast Guard.
Take your time with the recovery! It’s a long time, but better safe than sorry!
So glad you have a vacation on the books! That must feel so great!
