I feel like we’ve been slogging through winter for EVER! Not only is it spring, but APRIL is here! Bring it already! I’m sitting down with Deborah, Coco and you for a little catch up session over a nice beverage. Let’s get started.
OMG It’s April!
Over coffee I’d tell you that, because I spent the first quarter of 2026 laser focused on recovery from hip surgery, I did not travel and I missed it! I also did not work, but I didn’t miss that so much. Ha!
Over coffee I’d ask you about your plans for Easter/Passover. We will be extremely low-key here this year. My MIL fell on the day of my hip surgery back in January and is still not feeling great. She tripped on some stairs and broke her collarbone, 2 fingers, her wrist in 3 places and 4 ribs. Throw dementia into the mix and it’s been a challenge to say the least. We are working to get both MIL and FIL into a nursing home, and of course they are resisting. It takes a village.

Over coffee I’d ask you if you’ve heard of micro bakeries or porch bakeries. I’m not sure how long this has been a trend, but I’m first seeing it now. People simply start baking in their homes and selling their goods. One can order online and arrange for porch pickup.
With all the sourdough I’ve been baking these past couple of months, I suppose this could be a possibility for me? No. Maybe not. I can’t imagine how much work that would be. And do I really want people coming to my porch?
Over coffee I’d tell you I’m testing out the new Velocity shoe from Kuru. They’re designed for cross training, court sports and gym activities that require stability, traction and support. I’ve been wearing them in the Pain Cave for my strength workouts and they are insanely responsive and comfy. They’re going to be an excellent pickleball shoe when I get cleared to get back on the court. Just a few short weeks until that happens, but who’s counting?
What would you tell me over coffee? Any micro bakeries where you are?

Well, for one thing, I’d be turning up at your porch for that brown sugar cinnamon loaf!!
But yes, turning a fun baking phase into a “people showing up at your house” situation is a whole different level.
I hope you will be able to navigate successfully through the MIL /FIL situation. It’s not an easy task to convince them that a nursing home is the safest option!
OMG, pickleball? Are you sure? 😉
Yikes on MIL. That sounds lot a lot of healing that needs to happen.
I haven’t seen any porch bakeries in our area, but we do get home bakers at the local farmers markets. That would be too much work for me!
Well I have not heard of microbakeries but they sure sound yummy! I’m sure you are excited o get back to all of your activities. No pickleball for me but I am loving mahjong (it’s the new pickle ball lol)
Maybe you could do a mail order bakery instead- I’ll have several loaves of that sourdough sent to my house!
So your MIL had a bad fall on the same day as your hip surgery? That sounds like a nightmare. Dealing with aging parents is so, so hard. We had to use some trickery to get my dad into assisted living- but once we managed it, he actually started to like it. So- good luck. I know this is a challenging time.
I’m so sorry to hear about your MIL. We’re dealing with a similar situation with my step-mom. I hope you can find a solution for your inlaws.
I have not heard of microbakeries. While I love to cook, I’m not much of a baker. Your sourdough endevours look so so good. I don’t think I would want people coming to my porch either…but if you ever decide to ship, let me know 😉
It sounds like your hip recovery is coming along very nicely! That’s great to hear and it looks like you’ll be back on the pickleball court in no time.
I’m so sorry to hear about your m-i-l. It’s so tough watching our parents age and dealing with the associated issues.
I was going to hike in Yosemite with my friend but found out I’m actually scheduled to work, so alas, haha. :[
I’m so sorry to hear about your MIL’s fall! I hope she recovers soon.
I haven’t heard of the Velocity shoe but they sound really cool!
I do like the idea of a micro bakery since I don’t have time to bake.
Hope your inlaws are doing better. My MIL just sieeps mostly but she is over 100.
Had you been playing pickleball prior to the hip surgery? If so,I totally missed (or forgot) that detail. That’s a game I’ve played a few times, and I definitely need a lot more instruction because the rules are really confusing (to me, at least). I really think I’d enjoy the sport once I master the basics.
