It’s been a few minutes since I’ve joined the weekly rundown with Deborah and Kim, but I’m so happy to be here! What have I been up to? I’m doing my very best to savor and enjoy these long summer days. Oh and yes, I’m training for vacation, which is coming up soon.
Training for Vacation
Here’s how the week in workouts went:
Sunday: Walk 4 miles + Round of golf
Monday: Walk 4 miles and head over to visit my mom and celebrate my youngest sister’s birthday
Tuesday: Walk 4 miles, Bike hills and sprints, 45 minutes
Wednesday: Walk 2 miles, otherwise down for the count, no thanks to the Shingles vaccine
Thursday: Walk 4 miles and a very busy dough day
Friday: Walk 4 miles, Strength, and a big baking day
Saturday, Walk 4 miles, Strength + Corework, more golf
Our twice daily walks are mostly back and it feels so great to get out there consistently. Walking is one of those things that we tend to underestimate until we stop doing it. Only then do we realize the benefits it brought us. My bionic hip is feeling fantastic. So great in fact, that it’s easy to forget about it entirely, which I often do.

As I mentioned above, the shingles vaccine really took me down. Headache, fever, chills, body aches, the whole nine yards. As someone who rarely if ever suffers side effects from vaccines, this took me by surprise. They say the second vaccine is even worse than the first, so I’m not looking forward to that.

My little bakery is chugging along. If you read my Coffee Date post, you already know that I left my full-time job and opened a micro bakery. It’s been so much fun so far! What started as a loaf or two of sourdough here and there has already grown to double-digit bake days. I’ve got a ways to go of course, but I love having the flexibility of baking what I want when I want and doing it all from the comfort of home.
I’ve used and loved Great Lakes Collagen for many years now. I do not drink my daily coffee without a scoop of collagen. I notice smoother skin, stronger, more lustrous hair and nails and, maybe best of all, less muscle aches and pains and faster recovery from tough workouts. That’s why I was thrilled to be invited to the Great Lakes Wellness Well Collective. As part of the Collective, I’m able to share a discount code with you so you can enjoy the health benefits of Great Lakes Wellness Collagen and other products as well. Shop and order here and remember to use code TEAMARCIA to save 10%.
And Finally…
I’ll leave you with a pic of some of the peonies I snipped from my garden. It is a goal of mine this summer to cut more flowers so they can be enjoyed indoors. I’m not sure why I don’t do this as much as I’d like to but I’m off to a good start!
How was your week? What’s growing in your garden? What are you baking?

Your sourdough breads look absolutely delicious, Marcia!
How does the micro-bakery work? Do people place orders and then you bake, or do you bake first and advertise what’s available? And how do customers find you? Through social media or do you have a sign outside?
It’s such a clever idea: getting paid to do something you enjoy, while working on your own terms. That’s a pretty sweet combo!
I had a slight reaction the second shingles vaccine but nothing like you have described. That’s exciting about your bakery! Let us know when you start shipping 🙂 I’m all about training for vacations-enjoy your trip!
Wow, glad your hip is feeling so good!!! Soon you’ll be running marathons again. JUST KIDDING, although I’ll bet you could if you wanted to (I’m pretty sure you don’t want to). Anyway- yes I know what you mean about walking. It’s so great, physically and mentally, and whenever I can’t do it (thinking back to my sprained ankle a couple years ago) I REALLY miss it.
I really need to get the shingles vaccine, but I keep putting it off because I don’t want to take a down day- I’m just assuming I’ll have a reaction to it, because I did with the Covid shots. On the other hand, if I end up getting shingles I’ll be so mad at myself… I should just get the shots.
Your breads all look delicious!!!
I’ve been admiring your breads on Threads (didn’t mean to rhyme, but there it is)! Your creativity is amazing!
The shingles vaccine took me down, but it also sent me into an RA flare that didn’t end for several months. My rheum suggested I skip #2, saying that I had a ‘robust’ response to the first one. You don’t say…
