Saucony Triumph Review and a Winner

November 9, 2012

Recently I had the opportunity to try out the brand-new Saucony Triumph 10. Like rebels everywhere, I violated rule #1 of the runner’s code and cracked them out at the Zooma Great Lakes 5k. Yes I raced in a shoe I hadn’t even put my toes in before. They were surprisingly light and very [Read More]

Going Gluten Free

November 8, 2012

Yep, I’m joining camp gluten-free. I’m hoping my slacker thyroid will thank me for it. I was diagnosed hypothyroid shortly after Thing 2 was born in 2005 (before I took on distance running of any kind). Since then, I’ve been mostly happy on the medication (when I take it…because I detest taking meds). Remember last [Read More]

November 5, 2012

With the 2012 racing season winding down, if you’re like me, you might be shopping around for 2013   races.  How about putting some Blue Ridge Marathon action on your schedule? The full marathon course boasts 3,620 feet of elevation gain and 7,234 feet of elevation change.  My quads are burning just typing this. If you’re not [Read More]

Marathon Brain

November 2, 2012

This is my brain. This is my brain post marathon. We all know that blood is diverted from the stomach and digestive tract and sent to working muscles during a race but how about after you’ve crossed the finished line? The days following my Marine Corps Marathon adventure have been a blur. I’ve been much [Read More]

Switching It Up: Puma Giveaway

November 1, 2012

As much as I loved the Marine Corps Marathon, I’ve longed for this star-crossed training cycle to end. As I struggled with injury I knew I had to change things up once the race was behind me. I want to shift my focus from distance running to short but intense, strength building workouts. But how? [Read More]

Marine Corps Marathon: Race Report

October 31, 2012

Expo Friday Mega security getting in the DC Armory. Crowded, loud and hot. Selection was good but not great. Needed more drinks! Thing 2 was enamored with the Flying Pig Marathon medal. Touring Saturday Toured the White House (holy wow) Flopped down on a double decker tour bus and saw the sights with as little [Read More]

Post MCM: Home, Alive and Well

October 30, 2012

Thanks everyone for your concern and good wishes! Our Monday night flight out of Washington DC was cancelled for obvious reasons so, after finishing MCM Sunday, we got out of dodge by car, finally arriving home yesterday evening. The race was an incredible experience I will attempt to put into words as soon as I [Read More]

5 Coping Strategies for Inadequate Race Training

October 25, 2012

My over-dramatization of the impending Marine Corps Marathon is on the downswing.  It’s been almost 24 hours now since the last (hopefully final, but no guarantee) crying jag. I went to one final spin class yesterday and our previously demeaning instructor seems to have gotten the memo and was much more encouraging–she went so far [Read More]

Exorcising Marathon Demons

October 23, 2012

I thought I was handling this whole pre-marathon injury fiasco fairly well until I found myself in tears in the middle of a spin class the other day. I think it’s part of the process of letting go. Of grieving the loss of the marathon I might have run had things been different. Ok so [Read More]

marciashealthyslice I'm a working mom who, as part of a mid-life challenge, decided to run a marathon for kicks. I didn't plan on it becoming a hobby, but it did. I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
