December 1, 2011

JackedI definitely re-pulled my hamstring in the race(s) last week. I cut yesterday’s run short because no good was going to come of going longer or faster. Thankfully it was mild–if you call 28 degrees mild–so I bailed to the bike. No worries, hell or high water, I’ll be ready for Carlsbad in January! It’s [Read More]

What I Ate/Weigh-In Wednesday

November 30, 2011

I started the day in my usual way: 1/2 a Think Thin bar with 1/2 a cup of coffee with a pinch of Stevia. Oh and a big glass of water. Morning snack was a banana w/almond butter and more water. Lunch was a big honkin’ salad: spinach/romaine, tomatoes, cucumber, red peppers, nuts, berries, seeds, [Read More]

Thanksgiving Weekend: Final Morsels and a Snark Attack

November 29, 2011

Thanksgiving dinner for 26 went off here without a hitch. The turkey was juicy and fabulous, no fights or fires like last year broke out and I even remembered the cranberries. I attribute much of the success to proper pacing (at least I can pace something properly) and doing as much as possible beforehand. Hit: Lime [Read More]

Race Report: Turkey Trot Half Marathon

November 28, 2011

And so it ended much like it began. It’s funny how things come full circle sometimes. This half marathon was so much like the first one I did this year it was uncanny. This point-to-point race was done on forest preserve trails. I’d spent almost 10 years of my life living within a mile of these [Read More]

Race Report: 5k Turkey Puke, I Mean Trot

November 25, 2011

With no speedwork to speak of since July, I went into this race about as untrained as I’ve ever been in a long time.Coming off the hip injury, my goal for this race was to run a strong(ish) tempo pace and use that to calculate training paces for Carlsbad. Um, you’d be correct if you [Read More]

Weigh-In Wednesday and Other Gobbles

November 23, 2011

Our first two social engagements of the season happened last weekend. Wow they were fun. We are blessed with wonderful neighbors. While I didn’t go crazy eating at these parties, I didn’t restrict myself either. But I could tell that still I ate more than my body wanted/needed.Week 1: -1.4This week: -1Total: -2.4 poundsWeightloss + [Read More]

Recipe for a Rockin’ Race Calendar

November 22, 2011

Tis the season for a flurry of race-planning activity. Some have their 2012 calendars already bursting with commitments, others are still in the pondering stage and then there are those seat-of-the-pants peeps who sign up on race day. I’ve been slowly peppering my 2012 calendar with races lately. My recipe goes like this:1. Start with one, [Read More]

Stress Less Holiday Training Plan: The Mid-Term

November 18, 2011

I’ve been chipping away at my Stress Less Holiday Training Plan for a whole month already. Time truly flies. Much like in a running plan, I feel like I’ve built a decent base by getting into a more productive routine and dealing with things I’d typically procrastinate  and be caught scrambling with in the 11th hour. When [Read More]

Three Things Thursday

November 17, 2011

1. Temperature AmnesiaIs it just me or do you forget how to dress appropriately for running as soon as the temps dip? I felt like a total wimp wearing my jacket on my run this morning. Until I got out there. It was 28 degrees but holy wind chill Batman! I felt better when I [Read More]

What I Ate/Weigh-In Wednesday

November 16, 2011

With renewed focus on reeling in my weight before it gets completely out of control, I’ve joined What I Ate Wednesday at Peas and Crayons. I was off to a strong start (down 1.8 pounds) last week before leaving for NYC.  Alas that progress was blown to shreds. No thanks to this tasty morsel from [Read More]

marciashealthyslice I'm a working mom who, as part of a mid-life challenge, decided to run a marathon for kicks. I didn't plan on it becoming a hobby, but it did. I qualified for Boston at my second marathon and finished the 6 World Marathon Majors in London in 2019. Set no small goals. You never know what you're capable of until you try!
